I was nervous when I fix did mine as well. The way I look at it is that by installing everything yourself, if something goes wrong you know where the part is, how it goes on/off and usually how to fix it.
Hey, Im also thinkin of going turbo with the speedcorps custom kit, Ive started to buy some parts. I bought my lacer a little while ago used its in good condition, and want to start modding it. I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions of things I should definitely get checked over before I start modding/adding the turbo. Im just starting to get into modding so got a lot to learn but I know how to take shit apart and put it back together properly. (providing I have the resources lol). Any thoughts are appreciated
Id look at replacing your downpipe. If I can massacre mine and im not turbo then yea. Thats a must. But check the gaskets to make sure you wont have any kinds of leaks.
From what I was reading when you get your turbo you gotta replace your downpipe anyway. I was worried about the gaskets if they would withstand the pressure being forced in the cylinders. Headgasket job hard to do? something I should attempt myself or take to a professional.
Yea if you use the Evo 16g you need to get the O2 housing and downpipe as well. You really need to replace the whole exhaust because it is too narrow. Honestly, the turbo install isn't that hard, it is just a long and tedious process. It took me, with no prior experience, about 15hours to finish it. The headgasket isn't that hard, just make sure tighten everything down to spec and in the correct order(you might as well buy better head studs while it's off).
Yeah I was thinking of doin the Head gasket, a guy at work was discribing everything hes done it kind of sounded like a pain in the ass...then again hes a little slower haha. Did you use a better headgasket kit? If so which one?
I have never really looked before. But RRM just decided to sell there's in a standalone. Saw it last week while browsing for turbo parts. Why is it no one ever sells just the tubing for turboing a lancer. I havent found any yet new. And the used ones dont stay f/s for long either. http://www.roadracemotorsports.com/...page=product_info&cPath=1_4_7&products_id=639 That is one option. I don't know how the price is in comparison to others but they make some pretty decent stuff. They say they are overcharged but Im thinking that is just for the turbo. 4 grand for a turbo is quite expensive but they have to make a living too.
