not all intake are legal in cali actually most intake isn't legal in cali, i live in cali and i been doing a lot of research, you can get a intake with a carb eo# on it so when you smog your car just give them that number and they will enter it in to the computer b4 running the smog test and that will garuntee you passing smog, another way is swapping the intake before you do the smog like other members had suggested. If you want to avoid smog test completely you don't have to change your address to another state, just change it to another county, Lake county and i think river side county does not require smog test on cars register there, i don't know why so don't ask lol.

WHAT ABOUT WEAPON-R INTAKE? they use to create the dragon fly intake and i had it on my 97 mirage and it sounded mean lol, the weapon-r intake uses some kind of duel pipe to create a double flow air and it create a somewhat unique and different sound. it doesn't come with carb eo# for lancer but it does has it for other cars.

so, I'm debating between getting either a cold air intake or a short ram intake...anyone have any recommendations?

Right now I'm stuck between the SRI which is http://www.autocityimports.com/2009-mitsubishi-lancer-takeda-retain-short-intake-heat-shield-p-9689.html?p_name=2009-mitsubishi-lancer-24l-takeda-retain-short-ram-intake-w-heat-shield

    a
nd the CAI which is http://www.advancespeedshop.com/takeda-cold-intake-20092011-mitsubishi-lancer-pntr4203p-p-16290.html

is advancespeedshop.com a legit site? i am just asking cause there is a lot of fake site imitating legit site stealing people money. I remember i was told on this forum SRI is better than CAI for the 08+ lancer.

Id rather use ebay than a site that has no backing. Try our supported vendors for products as well.

It's really up to you. CAI usually produces a little more hp (although not a lot), but increase risk of hydro-locking, but I've heard SRI's sound better and usually don't give you as much hp. Personally, I'd probably do SRI.

one thing i will say about my sri that i hate is the heat stroke or heat wrap you get.
you don't get this in a cold air but like helix said you can get hydro lock if you have a cold air
