Calling someone driving 100+ MPH on a street a moron is justified in my opinion. I have mentioned on here before how I have done stupid stuff. Im not going to sugar coat any stupid driving on any occasion. And if you want to throw the "online" part in there go for it...this isnt about trying to act tough, this is about being realistic about a serious matter.

Not wearing a seat belt is like drunk driving. You are doing something stupid that can possibly get you killed. Why even risk it? Back when I was 21 I drove from Pasadena to Long Beach after having a dozen beers. I was wasted and the next day I barely even remembered driving home. It was one of the stupidest things I had ever done. If I had killed someone else that night, I wouldnt try to justify myself in any way. I was a moron and I would deserve what was coming to me.

As for the juvenile part, that was directed at the people on here who are trying to use extreme cases to justify NOT wearing a seatbelt. Its stupid.

    My 2 cents:

    1) Safety equipment, including the seatbelt, are designed to help protect you in the event of an accident. I've seen peope die with a seat belt on and and airbags deploying in a 35 mph crash and I've seen people live through a car rolling end over end 5 to 6 times coming from 75 mph. The point is, statistically, your odds of survival are much greater in ANY accident, regardless of the conditions (speed, time, road conditions) when you use the safety equipment properly that has been provided for you in the vehicle. Add to that the fact that if a police officer sees you even if it is just "backing out of your driveway" or "driving down the block to the store", they can legally (and they usually will) write you a ticket for it that can cost anywhere from $200 up depending on your local laws in affect. Why, IMO, would I risk injury since I can not control other drivers and how they operate their cars, let alone the possibility of a ticket that would cost me both money for the fine as well as higher insurance premiums?

    2) As per the terms and conditions laid out by the Mitsubishi, and I qoute:

"Any motor vehicle found with equipment either replaced or tampered with whether performance, exterior, interior, or safety related that is found to be the under lying cause of a major incident and/or malfunction shall risk the cancellation of any manufacturer warranty, no matter the extent of change, in which all coverage and services laid out to the consumer will be considered null and void. Futhermore, any repair work from previous issues found to be directly linked to the modification that caused the disqualification for their warranty may be considered fraud, and the end consumer can be recharged for any previous labor and parts awarded to them under the warranty terms and conditions. Also, because of the consideration of fraud, Mitsubishi reserves the right to notify local law enforcement and further investigate the issue in question for damages to the company which can extend to the fullest extent of law, both financially and illegally."

In other words, not only will they void your warranty, but they may get you arrested and sent to prison for fraud, depending on the conditions. Also, most insurance company's have stipulations in their fine prints in the service agreement you sign to be insured by them that if you are in an accident, whether at fault or not, they can have the right to void all coverage for that incident as well as can pull and end your insurance coverage.

Now, granted this is all a bit much, but the thought that it is in the fine print and they can ultimately pull that trump card if brought to court means that your in a lose lose to me.

Now, by no means am I telling you what to do or calling anyone by a name or anything of a negative nature. I am simply pointing out the facts of the matter and answering your original question by stating that you are better off leaving it alone and just dealing with the dinging bell if you want to drive without your safety belt on.
