CF Hey all, just got a lancer se (white) about 2 weeks ago..anyways, my question is how hot does the cover get? If i were to CF vinyl the cover would it melt off?
Hi, I've read that others has sanded thiers before painting, but I didnt. If you look at the cover, you can see that it has an "orange peel" type surface to it... that should be more then suficient to hold the paint. All I did was remove the cover and wash it in my sink with some dish liquid to remove any oil residue. I towel dried it and then let it air dry for a bit. For the areas that are black, the MIVEC and the Mitsu symbol, I used some blue painters tape to mask it off and a small exacto-knife to cut in the edges (being careful not to scratch the plastic). Then I used some Red Krylon spray paint designed for plastics. Make sure you use paint that is designed for plastics becuase it bonds stronger to plastic then regular spray paint. High-Temp paint is not needed at all, the plastic cover does not get anywhere hot enough to effect any paint... after all, if it got that hot, the cover itself would melt and warp. So far the finish looks the same as when I originally did it, even after driving in New England with all its road salt and sand. So, I think sanding the surface is just a waste of time. Hope this answers your questions
