I wanna cut off my stock muffler and upgrade to a universal muffler.

What sounds the best for an 06 oz rally?

Please don't do that. Just spend the extra money and get a real cat-back exhaust. I hate it when people get just mufflers. They look very rice, and sound horrible most of the time, and don't do anything for you performance-wise. Granted, its a Lancer, and you can't expect too much out of it for performance, but still.... If you're getting a universal muffler, you might as well add a bunch of stickers of no-name companies, and put some sweet fender vents too. Just, highly reconsider a real exhaust and not just a muffler. Please?

^^ Universal mufflers are pointless unless you are building a full custom exhaust. All they do is make a car louder...and causes a loss of backpressure, which KILLS fuel mileage. If you're on a tight budget, just be patient and save up for a cat-back.

I am building a full exhaust but my next step is a muffler. I dont have the money to buy a full catback so im building my own catback. I just wanna kno what catback muffler sounds good on my car so i dont waste my money on a shitty one!

I have a cat-back exhaust off of ebay, and have gotten dozens of compliments on it. Everybody's like "Wow that thing sounds sick, where'd you get it?" And I say ebay and they look at me like I'm an idiot. Goes to show, that you never know what its going to sound like until you do it. But, I think it would cost more to get one fabricated and made, then to just buy a full cat-back, unless you're doing it yourself. Are you?

Yea im doing everyting myself. I always thought that ebay sold crappy car parts but i guess not. Im also about to get rid of my cats. i cant decide to either get a test pipe or fabricate my own straight pipe. And im leaning toward the straight pipe. What do you think would be better for sound and performance.

Louder is a straight pipe, but performance the straight pipe wins by i think 1 more hp than a hi flow cat. But, an hf cat is legal and don't have to worry about not passing inspection or anything.
