on my manual oz. when i tap the gas then let off, i hear a knocking as the rpms descend, and then it stops. it knocks quickly about six times. i wouldnt describe it as a vibration. i heard it ever since i bought the car used. but now when i accelerate quickly, i think its what i hear, just getting worse. never heard it before while driving, just when idle. i do not believe it is any of the motor or trans mounts. they look good to me. and there is no way to my knowledge to check the trans fluid. car has 60,000 miles. any advice before i take it to a service shop?

throw out bearing bro. to make sure, while its idling, press the clutch and listen closely to see if the noise stops. if it does, its your throwout bearing. mines actualy in the shop right now for the exact same thing. you gotta drop the trans to change it, might as well change the clutch while its open. ain't a cheap fix.

yeah i think you might be right, come to think of it, im pretty sure i dont hear it when i press the clutch. but do you know what causes the knocking sound? and what causes the throw-out bearing to go bad? will it get worse if i do not repair it? and if you dont mind me asking, how much are you paying for the repairs? thanks

Im not a trans expert or anything, but Im pretty sure that when the bearing starts to get worn, it has play which causes it to move which causes that noise. thats why it gets louder in higher RPMs. but dont hold me to that, I may be wrong. they go bad because of excess wear, just like the clutch, although it is weird that yours is doing that at only 60K. most 7th gen owners have their trans problems around 100K. it for sure will get worse if you dont repair it. I noticed mine was getting louder, and on the drive home like 2 days ago, it started slipping preeeetty bad.
anyways, since the fix requires the trans to be dropped and opened, I reccomend getting a new clutch kit. it comes with the bearing, and its going to need replacing eventually. although since you only have 60K, its totally up to you.
all in all, $400 for the factory clutch kit, which is made by Exedy, and about $500 for labor. sucks, i know.
