I lowered my 08 GTS recently about 4 weeks ago now. Had some noise in the front end when make slow sharp turns, so I put some Tein spring silencers on and that fixed that. Now the noise is back today when making slow sharp turns. I got the alignment done 2 weeks ago, everything was good on the alignment, tech said no red flags went up when they were doing the alignment and everything is in the green so it was all good. Then this week on monday, 8/25/08. I bought 2 new tires for the front (these OEM Dunlops are $$$, so i just got 2 for now). Mounted and balanced on 8/25/08 also. Got on the highway 8/27/08, don't do much highway driving, the steering wheel started shaking when getting up to 70+mph. Brought the car back to where I got the tires and had them re-balance the tires again with their RoadForce 1 super-duper $$$$$ high-speed balancer. They told me it was off by 1/4 oz. on the one of the front wheels that they balanced earlier in the week. Now today I get on the highway after they rebalanced them again yesterday and but of course the steering wheel still shakes when driving 70+mph. I don't know what to do now. Not sure if the Eibach Pro-Kit is the cause for all my problems or not, I've put so much money into this already and its running out my savings real quick. I'm thinking of just going to the dealer next week and have them look at it, probably get my warranty voided just for walking in the door.
dude i have this exact same problem except for the fact that i don't have lowering springs on mine.... and i literally have done everything to fix it and i still have it. I just put a whole new set of tires on it and it help a little but it still has an annoying shimmy when i hit 70... and mitsu is being gay about it and saying that since i had after market rims on they wouldn't fix it.... so i put the stock wheels back on and its still there... and now they are saying the after market rims warped the car.... and the rims were only on for 500 miles or so.... so it has to b the car... cuz the rims didn't do anything to the car...
You kno i had a similar problem, with my previous car. It was something with the engine. Tryign to find out the english translation, since my mechanic was cuban and he told me in spanish lol. Do you feel that vibration when you brake as well?
I had the same exact problem with my GTS after putting some new tires on it, like clockwork the steering wheel would shake after hitting about 70 mph. I had them balanced three times to no avail, I had the rotors replaced and the shaking still persisted. Finally I had the tire shop warranty the tires as defective and replace them, fortunately this fixed the problem so you may have defective tires.
No i don't feel anything when i brake there is a little pule but nothing as bad as just going 70+mph on the highway. I had them balanced 2 times so far and i'm still shaking. I guess i'll pay these guys a visit for the third time on tuesday when i come back from vacation. Just might have the same problem as HusonFalcon. From what i remember theses Dunlops from the factory suck anyway, thats probably a perfect example.
please please do not take it to the dealer, you WILL get your warranty voided for suspension, i already have my voided for that part. mitsu send me a letter saying so. but as for the noise, i think its a problem with lancers, especially the new ones, i have the same noise my car is lowered with rrm V1 springs, i get squeeky noise when i turn left only, i am actually investing in some megan racing coilovers to fix that problem, From what i know its a rubber boot that is moving while i turn left. The rubber boot is located on the top of the strut itself. Thats what mitsu told me and they blame the lowering for that, I actually know for a fact that this happens to guys even if they are not lowered. I brought my laptop to mitsu with the claims of this happening even to guys that are not lowered but the manager of service dept refused to look at it. week later i got a letter in the mail that my warranty was voided. ***they did look at my suspension and could not find anything wrong with it except that it was lowered. as for those oem dunlops, they suck ass man, i went through mine when i hit 22k miles... i now roll on kumho ecsta spt. 225/45/18
Nope, i'm staying away from the dealer now. i'll just bring it back to the tire shop and have them look at it a third time, most likely they will have to replace the tires if they are in fact defective. They can deal with it, i'm sure they are used to crap like this and its the tire manufacturers to blame more or less.
^ That's your best bet EB, if they haven't balanced them by now they're not gonna take a balance. Just ask them nicely to replace them as defective and yes stay away from the OEM Dunlops as Jake said there is much better rubber out there for a comparable price.
Anyone have any suggestions for best replacements for OEM Dunlops, 215/45/18 (GTS OEM)? The place I got the crummy new dunlops that are impossible to balance is registered with Tire Rack so if I can find similarly priced tires to replace the crappy OEM Dunlops, they can order them for me and will give me a price competitive to Tire Racks prices.
NVM, found out the third time going back that the tire shops balancer was off and had to be recalibrated. So I wasn't the only one with problems, just happen to be there at a bad time. Its all good now.
