ok, so I have a 5 channel amp that I use to run everything. Problem is, if you haven't figured it out already, is that the D class amp is limiting. Its only a 700.5...700watts for 5 channels.

This guy at a local audio shop said to avoid selling my amp, i could hook up a 8" subwoofer to it and then get a mono/2ch amp to run the 10" i have. That way I could get a higher wattage amp as to add another sub.

What do you guys think about this? IF I were to do this, I would prolly mount it in the back seat where the arm rest comes down. There's a piece of plastic there that may be able to fit. I'm not 100% because this is just an idea for now.

*edit* scratch the arm rest idea. just thinking about it I wouldn't have the proper air space nor do i actually think it'll fit...

if your doing an 8 I highly recommend the RE series from RE Audio. OMG will they take a beating. and I also think mixing subs is a horrible idea. I can explain why but there are people here that im sure can do it better so Ill let them

Many people use 8" subs for the mids. Some pros build walls with nothing but 8s. For you, an 8" with another 10" sub isn't going to really make a difference. Meaning you wouldn't be able to tell that you had an 8" in the trunk with subs. You want your mids up front.

so if i want to add another sub, I need to get rid of the amp I have and get a good 2ch and a 4 ch? I'm also thinking of going back to Infinity Kappa Perfects. i had those in my last car and it sounded good. Prolly go with 2 Kappa Perfects than with 2 Solobaric L5...not sure though...Infinity just seems like a cleaner hit than the Kickers, but the Perfect was in a 01 Civic and it was ported whereas the Kicker is in a sealed and in the 08.

I guess the 8" sub is out of the question then...

It depends. I have a 5 channel amp and I'm pushing a Cadence 12 with it. It still hits hard and sounds damn good. It all comes down to what you are wanting to get out of the system. Be leary of stereo shops though, they may be wanting to just get a sell. They will always find "flaws" with your setup and recommend something that will make them money.

Ask friends how it sounds. If they say it could use something more, then approach the shops.

I have the one L5 and it sounds damn good, but a bit more bassie than I want. I miss the punch I had with the Perfects...IDK...maybe I'll mess with the crossover setting DURING MY BREAK FROM SCHOOL!!! HELL YEAH!!!

Box style and size can be a HUGE factor in the way a sub can sound. I have seen $600 subs sound like WalMart subs in a bad box. Check the spec and see if the box is the right style/size for that sub. Or shoot me the info in a PM and I'll do the research for you.

truer words have never been spoken. That sub should produce all the punch you would want.

Serious: What 5 channel are you running?

Your right on. What I was able to pull is:

Smallest sealed: .66 cu ft with 450 watts power handling
Largest sealed: 1.0 cu ft with 450 watts power handling

Your box MUST BE filled 50% full with polyfil.

You also must take in effect the size of the speaker. The speaker takes up some of that airspace. A lot of amatuers will build lets say a .66 cu ft box. Once they add the sub though the airspace turns into .55 cu ft of airspace. The sub will sound bad.

What is the size of you box and thickness of the MDF?
    Did you use polyfil?
