Does anyone know if this is possible on a 2003 Lancer ES? I have always wanted to have a km/h instrument panel instead of the American mph. I was wondering if it would be hard, or if it would just be plug and play? I am not looking to change anything but the panel. Only reason I don't think it will be difficult or anything, is because it will just be a stock ES panel, except from a different country. Just a stock for stock swap. The hardest part, I think, will be finding one. Let me know what ya'll think.
Should be simple plug-and-play. I've even seen an EVO cluster on a 7gen (which I want to do). Hell, see if you can find one on ebay..if all else fails, google it. I'm sure there are quite a few of them up for grabs.
Yeah, its perfectly legal. **To cover my ass and the forum..** It IS illegal to swap clusters with an odometer that has less miles than your current odometer. Its going to be damn near impossible to find one with the same number of miles as yours..try to find one that reads more than your current odometer. When you install, just write the number of miles YOUR cluster shows..that way, you can keep up with actual mileage.
isnt the odometer digital in those cars now for swapping purposes? Im pretty sure the cluster itself doesnt have memory and that it gets its display reading from another source.
I think enkrypter's right. If it's the way ya'll are explaining it, wouldn't it get reset every time you unplug it from your car? And, I looked on ebay and couldn't find one. I searched google, but couldn't really find anything either. I guess it's going to take sometime to find, and I have a feeling shipping's going to be a bitch. Isn't there a way that I can look on other country's ebay store owners? I think so. I'm going to go look into that. And thanks for the input guys, I figured it would just be plug and play since it's going to be the same exact thing I have, except km. But, if I or anyone else gets any more information, please let me know. Thanks.
Yes, the odometers are digital..no, they don't reset. Think of it like this..if you disconnect your battery, the trip odometer resets..but not the main. I have a cluster out of an 07 cobalt..if I hooked it back up, it would still read 14,2xx miles on it. it is meant to cut back on odometer fraud..
i know cause i used to have a 2003 and i took the whole dash apart.. and just about everything else to lol. your best bet is gonna be to find a canandian lancer that is being parted out and to buy the cluster. Or find one of those internet sites that makes custom backrounds for clusters and get one made that says km with a custom Mitu logo that lights up or something like that.
best bet for km is for a canadian oz cluster .. i saw one on ebay month ago but backed off... i found a perfectly working evo8 cluster with 59.212 on the odom and im 300 miles shy of replacing mine or so.. im at 58950 give or take a few.... but yeah.. cant have a new/used cluster with less miles than whats on the car.. a big nono.. advise is find a cluster in km and conv it to mph and see how close you are.. or get a overlay
I'm not going to get an overlay, and that's what I was planning on doing if I ever do find one for sale. Convert km to miles to see how close it is, and judge it off of that.
Wow, you're in luck. I wanted to swap in an Evo cluster to my car. I haven't bought the cluster yet... I have a 2003 ES, and swapped the gauges from the stock ES to the stock OZ gauges. To verify one of your concerns earlier in this thread: The odometer reading goes with the gauge. I swapped one in that had LESS KM's than my car does ...so just keep note of what your stock mileage reading is! Soooo, If I get an evo cluster, I will have a KPH OZ Rally cluster for sale. I bought it off ebay for $40 CAN plus $15 shipping.. so I can sell it cheaper... have you tried eBay?
Yes, I looked a few times in the past few days, and nothing. But, I have an ES, not an OZ. Would it still connect correctly? How many kms does the cluster you might be selling have on it?
I have an ES too! The clusters from any 4G94 Lancer (2002-2006) are interchangeable plug and play. Doesn't matter if it's KPH or MPH or ES, LS, or OZ. Even Evolution clusters within those years can plug in! The km's are roughly around 98000 (~61250 miles).
Here's my stock gauges: http://gallery.me.com/chanman23#100006/DSC01794&bgcolor=black Here's the OZ ones (I also have an Evo steering wheel): http://gallery.me.com/chanman23#100006/photo1244738636481
Well, that's nice, and I appreciate your offer, but my car has 100K miles on it.... sigh. I'm going to have some trouble I think. Lol.
