I was going through the different reviews and forum threads at Edmunds.com and I found some new information. Apparently, Mitsu is seriously thinking about making the RA the 2.4L I4 engine. As for turbocharging it, that is the current plan, but they may offer the RA in two variants one with the base engine and one with turbo. So, this means no GST, GSX, or whatever rating. It means Lancers out there will be badged RA and the consumer will get the choice in powertrain. I can't wait to get the final verdict from Mitsu at the Tokyo Auto Show next month!! Bill
I kinda thought they might pull something like this, and if the base engine is the "World" 2.4L they better make the engine more powerfull because 20hp more (I believe it is rated at 172hp) isnt worth the price increase, although it could have more available standard features, like the projector headlights/HID, leather, refrigerated glove box, etc.
From what I have seen/read, the options would be as followed: 1) Lancer RA Powertrain Option 1: 2.4L I4 engine, approximately 175 HP, (torque?), FWD, and be priced around the 22.5K to 25K 2) Lancer RA Powertrain Option 2: 2.0L I4 with light turbo, approximately 225-250HP, (torque?), AWD, and be priced around the 27.5K to 30K Mind you, all of these numbers and options are strictly speculation to Mitsu announces final production model info at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Show in October (Tokyo Motor Show is Oct. 27 - Nov. 11). Sounds like the Evo X will run around 33K to 35K like normal. Personally, I take rumors and gossip with a grain of salt till Mitsu actually announces the final info... Bill
IDK if Mitsu even wants to compete with the WRX they are gonna have to set a lower starting price for the possible AWD Raliart, IDK what the new WRX starts at but Im sure its alot cheaper than 27.5k
The new 2008 Subaru WRX starts at $25K without any add-ons or TTL. That puts the RA in the same general area. Mitsu may set the starting at the same price point (a good competitive stratagey), but the way I see it, if I have to finance an extra grand or so for a stiffer chassis with less body roll and much better exterior appeal (the new WRX is fuglier than the backside of a 700 pound man), I would do it in a heart beat.
