Honestly, i had no idea HKS made that. I think it is a good thing to have if you don't want to flash your ecu. I had my speed limiter taken off and my rev limiter raised to 7400 when i had my ecu flashed at LA Extremes here in Alabama...and i have loved every minute of it for 3 years now. i say give it a shot and post install and the results.

so what exactly do you think i should do to the ecu to make my car faster?
i dont really know what the flash thing is tho

I thought that particular part will just remove your top speed governor. Once installed it will work out on the street but you really shouldnt have a need to go that fast on the street. I dont think the 9G has top speed governor, only a rev limiter but your car might have both. WIth an ecu flash you typically send your ecu, a list of your mods, and octane preference to an aftermarket company that reflashes (reprograms) it to give you more hp, tq, etc. There is also the option of a piggy back. A piggy back is like a chip or an external computer that you just tap into your ecu. The piggy back then modifies the ecu to give you similiar results to a flash. Problem with a flash is that it is only reversable by having the dealership reflash your ecu (if you have warranty and need work done they may do this anyways thus you lose your money). With a piggy back all you have to do is uninstall it. I personally prefer a piggy back that gives you the option of purchasing the software to tune yourself. This way if you add more aggresive mods later down the line you can make your own adjustments to the ecu, or have a shop do it.

yeah..those are the downfalls to doing a flash lie i did...but since i kept modding and building, Jon at LA Extremes hooked me up. I think he charged me like 35 bucks to reflash each time. but unless you know someone like that, i would def. do the piggyback. As for the top speed limiter...i didn't think the '04 R/A had one, until i hit it at like 130...Mitsu just sets them really high for some reson i guess. At least its not like the older s-10's and ford rangers...cutoff is somewhere around 95. lol

lol, well trust me if the 08 ES has one, its gonna be right at the last number on the dash or higher than that lol. Shoot my dads old 92 Explorer went waaay past the 85 that the dash said lol. and 35 for each reflash is a hookup, better keep that guy as a close friend lol.

Really its up to you and your circumstance. I am not trying to push one product more than the other, just outlining my reason for getting one over the other. Take these points into consideration.
*Generally getting your ECU flashed is cheaper depending on how extreme the flash. (You should check for your particular car but that is my experience with past and current cars)
*If you have warranty and care about it, it is easier and more economical to remove piggy over getting a stock reflash, or having your dealership do it and losing that money.
*Most piggy backs have available software to tune your car to your particular needs. Renting a dyno would be needed though for optimal results and that cost $.
*With many ECU flashes you have to send in your ECU to get flashed thus being without that vehicle for that time being.
*Piggy backs give you a general tune that will be the same for people in all elevations and different amounts of mods.
*ECU flashes usually give you a list to fill out with your current mods and octane rating preferences thus giving you a closer tune for your car and preferences.

This just a quick list off the top of my head, but keep in mind that its 1:30 in the morning lol.
If I were you I would research your different options first to see whats all available for your car. Plus look into the different options offered with each tune and compare the price differences.
