Can't find a "Clubhouse" type section, I apologize.

I'm Chris and just purchased a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally with 153,000 on it. I'm highly impressed with the fuel economy, though the power is a bit less than desired but that can be fixed I'm sure. :) The interior is in excellent condition as well as the exterior. Seems to lack quite a bit of low end torque unlike my old vehicle and I'm try to find ways to not necessarily add more power, but distribute it and tune it to broaden it out. :)

This is undoubtedly a great vehicle with a lot of potential and my ultimate goal is to make it last for many years, NOT rice it out and be known as a ricer and have some muscle under the hood. :) I am sure I'll find a lot of helpful articles on how to do that and will probably make some friends on the way. Any tips on the car would be great! I am certainly no novice user when it comes to general and somewhat in depth maintenance but any bit of knowledge helps.

    So here I am. :)

Short ram intake, header, exhaust. And a decent tune. That will give you the low end power you want. Like 7 more hp with all that. But that will indeed even out the power band. After that if you want more horsepower turbo and then start adding on more bolt-ons such as ported header, intake manifold, etc. etc.

Thanks Jorgenmaru, that's good to know. It probably does need a tuneup. When I try to apply power when its around 2200 RPM's, it seems like it wants to cut out a bit. Never had that problem with my old Tempo or the A4. A4 is turbo also, but yes. Tuneup for sure. NKG plugs sound like what I need. Can anyone recommend a good gap that they personally like?

With a short ram intake, does that have equal particle and filtration ability as an OEM air filter? I'm looking to protect the engine as much as possible while getting all the fun out of it that I can. Delicate balance. :)

It really depends on the filter you choose. I use k&n for my filter. As for the 2200 rm thing that's a lancer thing I believe. Cut your a/c off. It will help a little more.

Welcome to LT, Chris. There are definitely a lot of knowledgeable people on here that can help you out. I don't remember the gap I used on my spark plugs when I changed them earlier this year. I'll see if I can't find if I wrote it down anywhere.

It performed the "cut-out" without using the AC. I'm definitely keeping the AC, though. I enjoy the AC! lol
If you can recommend a good short ram air filter, that would be excellent. :)

HUNK, thank you for checking on that. I'll look for the picture gallery and upload pictures of my car soon. :)

Good short ram intake would be a K+N. That's what I have, and it was super easy to install, except I broke a head off a bolt.

I found out what caused the cutout. Misfire in cylinder 2. Replaced 2 spark plugs with the NGK equivalent and the issue went away. Plan on replacing the other 2 when I get a chance. :)
