so im goin turbo and ive been reading and wanna check sumthings here with yous 1)im looking at pushing 6-7psi..the research ive done i think this will still b a reliable daily driver..ne1 disagree 2) i pretty much got a list of parts off speedcorps custom turbo...is tat everything i need...i look at installing a new clutch of course and prob upgrading the flywheel at the same time 3) i was goin to get ported intake mani, bored throttle body, and port and polish the heads b4 the turbo but im thinking of goin turbo first now mainly because icant wiat for the turbo any longer...lol...do uz disagree with that discssion 4)upgrading internals...i dont think this is nessacary unless pushin more boost than i am but im still thinking of doin this but not till dead last...or do u think i shood do it asap..i dont want my car goin boom as this car is my daily driver...lol thanks for every1s info in advance
6-7 psi isn't really a big difference from what i hear i doubt you will even feel it, my suggestion is either risking it and pushing 10 psi or build up the block before you go turbo. i personally would never turbo a daily driver vehicle, u have to understand that with going turbo there's many other risk to take into consideration such as oil and fuel delivery as well as ur gaskets capability's to hold such higher pressure and temperatures.
How many miles on your engine? And if its more than 80K, I would do internals for the safe side and for future purposes.
Exactly. But I would drop it to around 65k. As for PSI...anything over about 7 psi is going to need an intercooler and I've heard that that block can take 12psi on the stock internals. Someone correct me if i'm wrong....but thats what I have heard for years
my car now has 60k miles...and in evolutionm.net there r ppl running 7psi and have 180whp..after i do internals then i might raise the boost...thinking bout it now i should prob do internals then port and polish...and i have bein on the fence bout turboing my daily car but im tired of having such a slow car and think if it gets installed correctly i shoodnt have to many problems im hoping..although i kno u almost always incounter prob goin turbo
14 psi is the max I have heard of. I think JRR over at evom had/has his cranked that high. Do not do it at all though. This guy is extremely knowledgable about this.
also there is sum1 on evoultionm.net that is running 19psi 313hp..im not lookin at doin nothin like this but like said 7psi..mayb a lil more after doin the internals here is a link to evoultionm.net of ppl who turboed there lancer and the boost hp and trq http://forums.evolutionm.net/lancer...duction-tech/448146-list-turboed-lancers.html
i am goin getin a mishimoto zline intercooler off of speedcorps i believer that this intercooler doesnt require u remover the front crash bar
7 psi is fine, and you'll definitely feel it. I've been running 7-8psi since Thanksgiving 2008 and I did the turbo install when the car had 120k, I'm now at 165k with no real issues. Make sure you setup your tune correctly and you'll be fine.
I would personally go with "M" if you plan on keeping this car for a while. But this is also your d.d. so "Z" may work to your benefits.
Stock internals. The engine has never been apart aside from changing the valve cover gasket and tube seals. "M" and "Z"?
Well it really comes down to what turbo you use, your tune, and how hard you run it. The stock rods are rated to hold up to about 12 and the pistons at 14 psi, but it varies. Some people, with a good tune, run 14 psi all day long and are fine, others blow with 8psi. It just varies.
How long have you had your car? And I would do a basic tune-up on your car if you bought it used from a dealer. But if you have had it since it was new in 03 then dont worry about the tune-up. Since your at 60k then you are in the clear for turbo. But if you are porting everything you described you might want to do internals. If you plan on trackin it I suggest you do that. As for the list ThunderOZ provided you with from speedcorps. It seems like a good list. Im not turbo yet so you would have to ask him on the subject. As for the porting, I've only seen one place online that has a ported head and intake manifold. But Im pretty sure you can find someone within 300 miles that could do it for you using your parts. Anyway, I have to get back to work b4 my bosses beat me for being up here.
yea the only one i found was rrm ported intake mani...since i am not inclined enough to do the turbo instal myself im goin to a place called epic tuning in allentown pa to have them install the custom 16g turbo for me...ne1 think they kno wat a good price is for this..im goin up this weekend to talk to them but wondering on sum opinions
$800. Try to find a dyi guide first. Speedcorps.com has a basic one up there. http://speedcorps.com/cc-lancer01.html ^Here^
I ALRready looked into turboing it bymyself...i jus dont really trust myself...if i miss one thing up then it cood end very badllyyy...i think the safe bet wood jus b to take it to epic tuning where they do custom turbo installs...u understand wat i mean
if i where you i would find a friend that i trust lot to do it, and help him, so i learn more while it still gets done right
