So i was driving home from town today, i live just south of indianapolis, IN. and on a gentle curve my car started to slide. Well needless to say i could not save it and i went into the ditch sideways, clipping a concrete barrier to a drainage ditch with my front passenger tire. It tore about a six inch long chunk out of the inside of the wheel, and busted my ball joint. That's the extent of the damage that i know of, it could be worse, just haven't figured it out yet. My lancer is sitting on jack stands in my garage. Like i said...no bueno
damn thats crazy! i think we all have a love/hate relationship with snow it looks amazing but... it's a pain in the ass! ^+1 hope the repairs arn't to much!
The stock GTS tires/wheels are ridiculously bad in winter conditions, this should be fairly obvious to anyone by taking one look at the tread. Save yourself a lot of trouble and purchase a set of Blizzaks or X-Ice or something pronto.
i'm gonna ride on the stocks(once i get the wheel replaced) til i get my tax check, then i'm gettting a set of r-1 hypes with either kuhmo ASTs, or hankook k106s (any suggestions on which?) As for now i have to replace the lower control arm and the wheel, but it could have been worse, if i hadn't have gone completely around i would have drug my whole car down the culvert and done who knows what. P.s. I know this isn't the right thread, vut if anyone can tell me where to get a single gts rim for cheaper than the dealership listed it (not hard seeing as how the guy told me it was $746 per wheel) let me know please. Thanks for the concern everyone
yeah, the stock Dunlops are definitely not winter-friendly. I might buy the Lancer a set of nice all seasons and save the Dunlops for the Galant though.
everyone who lives where there is snow should be intelligent enough to know that pretty much all 4 season tires are only 3 seasons and they completely suck in the winter. buy winter tires when you get the car, its an obvious thing to own when living in cold climate/snow zones (at around 3 to 5 degree celcius summer and th the vast majority of all season tires are rendered innefective because the rubber becomes too hard, think about a hockey puck, you are riding on that) btw i dont mean youre not intelligent with the first line, maybe more a little bit negligent or unaware of the conditions, bad lcuk happen, youll know next time, part of life it seems!
For that cost you can just get the aftermarket wheels. I'm looking atthe eneki flc-01 through discount tire all four for under the cost of one stock replacement. sounds like a better deal to me! As far as the tires go... i've owned falkens, goodyear f-1s, nittos, bfg's, sumitomos, and kumhos. Kumhos and falkens were probably the best ones for my autocrossing/aggressive street driving.
ya those tries really do suck in the snow i learned to just take it slow and not try and rush anything when driveing in that weather
