I keep reading that the DE has drum brakes front/back and the ES has drums in the back. Now, I have an ES so I haven't been able to compare my brakes to that of the DE BUT my front brakes look exactly the same as the back brakes, from the outside at least. Anyone care to shed some light on me? Thanks.
The DE only comes with disk fronts and Drum backs. Accourding to the specs below from Mitsu, The ES comes with disc fronts and drum backs if you get the technology package, but if you dont get the tech package, the ES comes with disc backs. The GTS comes with larger 4-wheel discs standard.
i dunno cuz thats what i thought but when i got into my accident and i was tryin to pl pull my quarterpanel away from my wheel i took my wheel off and to my surprise i had disc
THERE ARE ES MODELS WITH ALL DISC BRAKES (VERSION1) AND WITH DRUM BRAKES ON THE BACK. ES V1 WERE THE CARS THAT CAME WITH THE FIRST SHIPMENTS AND THEY HAD ALL DISC BRAKES STANDARD. HOWEVER MITSUBISHI CHANGED THE SPECS OF THE ES MODEL AND THE OTHER SHIPMENT OF O8 LANCER ES (VERSION 2) THAT CAME INTO THE US HAD DRUM BRAKES ON THE BACK, THE TRUNK LIP, THE FAST KEY STANDARD, ETC. AND IT WAS A LITTLE BIT MORE EXPENSIVE. I CHOSE THE V1 BECAUSE I THINK THAT GOOD BRAKES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAT SOME ELECTRONIC FAST KEY  I forgot Caps Lock on So that's it, it used to be standard all disc but hey changed it. Oh man, this is kinda is upsetting. I just got my ES and I totally thought it was disk brakes all around. Now I just realize that since I have the Nav. & Tech pkg. I have drum brakes on the rears. I can guarantee that there is no other car being sold with Navigation, Bluetooth, keyless ignition and yet also has drum brake rears. Anyone change their rear drum brakes to disk brakes??
