On the 2002 oz rallys does everyones clutch start engaging at the end of releaseing the clutch or does mine have something wrong with it? Iv driven a few other manual cars and i liked their clutches better.
If it is engaging when the pedal is almost at rest (not pressed), thei I say it needs a hell of an adjustment. Unless you have it adjusted to disengage at half pedal, it should engage around 3/4 pedal...
I was thinking that because iv never driven a car that engages that late. I was also wondering how much can the stock clutch take when performance on the car is increased. At what point should i start looking at race clutches
Stock clutches, in my opinion, are crap for anything more than daily driving. When I bought my RA, I drove it normally for about 800 miles to ensure a decent break-in for the car. After that, I threw on an intake and fabbed up a custom cat-back and left it alone for a while. I would call myself a "spirited" driver everywhere I go...the clutch started to go after about 8 months. when I replaced it, I noticed that along with being slightly glazed over, the disc had some chunks that had broken and fallen to the bottom of the housing. And of course, when I told Mitsu about it, they said that its not their issue...the clutch is a wear item. I put in a stage 2 Exedy (or Diakin..whatever they want to call themselves) and have run on it for almost 5 years now. Its time for a new one, but the car has been through a lot..bolt-ons, internals, turbo, back to N/A, dragstrips, track days, auto-X, plus serving as my daily. Clutchmasters makes a prettygood kit from what I hear. About 30% clamp increase with stock feel, and a nice sprung disk also. I think it runs close to 300 for the OZ kit...
