I'm running a Kicker 700watt x 5 ch amp, Infinity kappa components, Infinity Reference 2 way, and a Kicker Solobaric L5 10" sub. Do I need a capacitor?

My friend is running a 800 watt system and he has (2) 1 farad capacitors. I told him that he wasted his money on buying the extra one. Can someone, also, provide a guideline on these?

Atm im running 2x 12" kicker subs off a 1800w kenwood amp.. im only using the 1 farad cap.. the extra one seems a waste to me if mine is running fine with just the one..

I would definatly get one, it acts like a secondbattery, for your system 1 farat should be sufficient. The capacitor keeps the power supply steady flow so the audio system does not put any stress on your alternator. Also if you are serious I would get one of those yellow top batteries, I forget the name of it

yea a cap wouldnt be a bad idea with our electrical systems. They are kinda weak. Im getting light dim running an 800 watt four channel with the back channels bridged to run a sub. If you go much bigger then that I would check out the cap killers made by x-static. for about 150 bucs you can get a battery not much bigget then a cap that equates out like 800 caps

Caps are a waste of money unless you are running a solid system and then you will need a 25 farad or higher. You are better off upgrading the battery or get a HO Alty first. Maybe upgrading the big three if that is even possiable on the Lancer. IMO a cap should be your last resort after upgrading to a HO Alty...

Also caps can be very beneficial if used properly. They are only a devise to transfer power from the battery to and should only be to the sub amp. They are in no way like using another battery or an aid to keep your lights from dimming.

Reason being is that a battery cant put the power out fast enough for a sub amp. The amount the sub amp consumes is much great than an full range amp. So with the right size cap and fully charged, the cap can discharge and charge faster than an amp can pull power from the battery and the cap will always keep enough in reserve to put it ahead of the amp so it can put less stress on the battery when charging what it just discharged to the amp.
    This all happens in milli-seconds.

Also u should never put a cap before the in line fuse to the amp. This can cause for the fuse to heat up and melt and then not work as its purpose is needed.

You can follow the text books or hands on, but I like to use 1farad for every 300 watts of RMS power that the sub amp is delivering.
Now as Prophet has stated, if your not upgrading to a higher out put alternator and proper batteries then really , whats the point. However there is hope. Most OE alts will put out a good amount of charging power that will allow to upgrade to a more efficeint battery that will fully charge at lower rates that OE alts put out, but put out big power.
I suggest Oddesey Batteries. There are companies that use these batteries and put their label on them. I dont support Optima(the yellow, red and blue top batteries) due to their old technology and they burn out to quick. Just my experience and other successful audio enthusists in the industry.

Well thats my $0.02 dont wanna bore u. LOL!

Bat cap, metra, schoshe and others alike r all using Odessey batteries. They just put their label on it. These r the batts I use and suggest.

As far as alternators, I would recommend get ahold of a really cheap used alternator and send it to ur local alternator shop and build it to your application. BE SURE TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK!

Yellow tops are deep cycling batteries which deliver a lot of power, but r slow doing so. Which leads to premature cells damage.

    Red tops are basic replacement.

    Blue tops r marine

what you need to do is "the Big 3" and a good battery. that will do 10x more what a cap will do.
