Wondering if anyone has tried a rear mount turbo on these cars. We have done regular turbo kits on the lancer, and rear mount kits on other cars. Including the first Dodge Stealth in the country with a rear mount turbo. We were able to do a full build centered around this and actually double the horsepower. If no one's did this yet to a lancer, I'd be interested in doing it to my daily driver OZ Lancer and make it another shop car.
I think we could come up with an affordable kit., Here's some pics of the stealth kit we did, which was fabricated here all from scratch.
Seen them before...mainly on Vettes. I really wouldn't know where to even start thinking about placement of all the components and piping. There isn't that much room under a lancer...
Well I have dealt with much worse, V6 3000's, supras, and 300z's definitely don't leave much room for anything. I think it can be done and I'd be willing to do it, probably after summer when things slow down. We have an excellent welder/fabricator here so I'm excited to see what we can do with this.
In reality you do not have to use an intercooler which would mean only the 1 intake pipe would need to come up into the engine bay, thats it. That way you can also have that sleeper effect so you could pop the hood and it would just look like a cold air intake, most people wouldn't think to look all the way under for a turbo. LOL imagine the street racing when everyone thinks they are just running a stock lancer.
I like this idea. But really there isnt any room under the lancer especially if its lowered. Only thing i really hate it the placement of the intake. Too much rain here in VA for my personal choice
Actually all the cars we have done this to have been lowered, we sometimes fab a guard to protect the external oil pump, other than that you'd be surprised how much room you can free up. As for the rain, there is a protective water sock that goes over the filter and thats all you need, everything else can get wet with no problems.
snow isn't going to effect anything, it would be fine, snow would help, keeps the charge pipe nice and cold, lol better than an intercooler
lol well I guess if you live in an area where there is that much snow on the ground but I don't know of any lancer that would even go anywhere through that much snow anyway so I seriously doubt you have to worry about that
I was thinking of doing that to my OZ also. I've done 2 cars so far and had great success with them. Let me know if you do that setup so I can see how you set it up. What kind of pump did you use to get the oil back to the engine?
Im just curious about passing emissions with a turbo on these cars. I live in PA and they have California emissions here and I'm having problems with an aftermarket exhaust alone... Adding a turbo would be a pain.
You wont be able to pass emissions unless you can find a way to make the intake look stock. Sent from my DROID2 using Tapatalk
