I have already talked to mitsubishi corporate and they refuse to beleive it is a common problem and in need of a recall. the reason they keep breaking is because the problem is in the heater box which they have an upgrade kit for the only problem is you have to take out the whole dash to get to it. this is as I understand from the mechanics at my local dealership and could be wrong.

if your having the same problem that i had which was that the knobs wouldnt turn and eventually the cables just broke due to the pivot point under the dash not having a sstop point then you can due a few different things 1 would be to replace the cables and reconnect making sure to squirt a lube on the cable and work it so that it will seep into the housing of the caple by that i mean the pastic or rubber type housing 2 would be to make a custom type heater control using the old style choke knob where you pull or push to adjust the setting or 3 which i have don just reach under on the driver side for which vent and the other for temp and manually flip the switches to the desired setting and its free

got it working by taking out the fuse and putting an in line fuse in to the fuse holder now it works really good.
