okay guys i have a question i lost my key and i cant find my back up one this brain of mine so when we get our cars we get that lil tag that comes with it so someone can code it and cut you a new one. Now i have a DE basic key nothing to it i called a locksmith he said $20 to cut me a new one and such. I call the dealer they can do it also but they said it has to be programed to the new key running me $100 my question is does the DE key even have to be reprogramed he told me it had a chip in it which i dont believe because i dont even have door locks but i could be wrong some help would help if any :idea:
Ha the same problem with my old focus. No power locks, but the key was $250. Im not sure if the DE has a chip in its key, but I would have to say yes. Take it to the dealer, bc if you take it to a locksmith it might turn in the handle, but when you go and start the car it will ruin something, another thing I found out the hard way on.
yes the DE has the chip my dealer told me it would have to cost me 80 for a replacement or a third for the daughter. that sucks but have a beer sit down relax and i bet it will just come back. But best of luck and sorry friend
Yea, you do. I have a DE and got a regular key cut because it can unlock the doors, but it wont start the car. Ive tried it, the car will start but immediately cut off a few seconds later.

Ok guys well the good news i found the key no now but ive had it. i have another ? maybe someone can help me is mitsubishi the only one that can reprogram a key for me. i need a spare one bc having just one makes me nervous . so of course im going to get a new one but idk if my dealer is the only one that can do this.?
I guess I was lucky when I bought mine, because I ended up with 2 spare factory keys. I guess I was one of the first ones to buy a new lancer out here, and they still werent sure how to get them to link up with the car. I bought the car, came back a few days later (as I was told to) to pick up the spare, and they ended up giving me 2 more
yeah i was given three myself. I think they felt bad i was so wanting the GTS, but after the insurance company said the old car was a right off, we had 48 hours to get a new one. I can say i was the first 2008 on the road here in Halifax. They gave all of us a key, Could i have waited i would be in an EVO right now. Oh well....But damn 80 bucks a key is nuts.
