So im thinking about hallowing out one of my cats on my 2008 lancer gts. i have the works exhuast on there right now. the thing is i want my car louder, ha without putting one of those big can exhausts on my car. The only thing i am affraid of it sounding like one of those ricey hondas. i hate that high pitch annoying sound lol. i need some opinions on what should i do. i know my CEL will go off but i can easily make that go away. so thats not the problem. im just looking for a deeper tone and little louder then it is with out it costing my an arm and leg. please let me know what u guys think! thanks( i would plan to do this today!)

Why buy a test pipe, when you can just make your own, ya know? I was thinking about doing that to my stock cat, but can't get the bolts off easily because they're all rusted.

why pay for a test pipe, when you can just hallow it out and leave the cat. i looked under my car and one side has bolts and the other side is welded to the rest of the piping (toward the rear bumber). the only thing is i dont wana hallow it out and then have it sound like shit lol. then im screwed and there will be no tuirning back u no? lol

the works exhaust is just a muffler delete isnt it?
you would get a nicer all over sound with a test pipe like everyone else has mentioned, and an axle-back exhaust.

instead of the test pipe what if i just hollow out the cat? wouldnt that be almost the same sound overall?

it would be i suppose, you just have to factor in the compromise of that part if you start altering it. the thing might rattle a lot, or be much weaker, you never know, plus just a straight pipe the same dimensions as the rest of your exhaust would'nt be too expensive.

its really all up to you

and a shaking cat is the most terrible noise in the world, next to bad brakes.
if you're smart about it im sure it would work out fine.

They probably won't unless you know them personally.

They don't make a test pipe for the new lancers... but if they did what kind of gains would you see with a axle back

not much, but something. and i was commenting on the quality of sound, rather than that created by just having no muffler at all.

so i looked under my car last night (2008 lancer gts), we have a small cat in our down pipe. Then we have our big cat in our exhuast with a sensor before the cat and after the cat... then at the end we have a resinator then our muffler. so i took the muffler off already and put the WORKS axle back. Today im going to go to a shop and get the resinator off and ask them to just put a strieght pipe in there. it shud not throw my CEL cuz there are no sesors after that. I think this is what makes our car really quite. I know they make a magnaflow cat back exhuast for our car. which means the magnaflow goes on AFTER the big cat. thats why this will not throw codes. but the magnaflow still has a resinator. thats why its still so quite. cuz i no they are ment for quiteness pluss actual performance. so i think by taking the resinator out, it will enhance the sound i have now! lol

I just made a axle back on mine using a cheap thrush muffler ($27 at autozone) and elimated the first resonator, the result was a deep and solid sound
