First, sorry about my grammar. I'm foreign exchange student. I bought my 09 lancer gts(MT) on july 2008. It has driven 9000miles so far. I started hearing this weird noise since about 2000miles, and i'm still hearing the same noise. It never happened before 2000miles. The noise is not that loud, but still nerve-wracking. It's hard to describe it. It kinda sounds like small steel ball rolling on a little rough floor. It seems like the noise comes from front part or clutch.(somewhere around engine) This noise only happen on 4th and 5th gear from 1500-2000 rpm if you push the gas pedal more than half way. I'm not sure if this is a problem or just normal thing that everycar experiences. Manual cars i've driven so far are kia spectra, pt cruiser, and 08 lancer gts. They didn't make similar noise. I really wonder if there is anybody who has same car as mine experiences same problem.
Seems like nobody really hears any noise in that situation. I probably have to take it to dealership.
i think it just has to do with the engine design on all manuals. you just running it at lower rpm that ive noticed they dont like to run at as well accelerating, its hard to explain, but if any one with a manual shoves it into 4th or 5th gear running it at such low rpm's will experience this. 5th is like the over drive on cars if you want to accelerate more, shove it into 3rd or 4th gear. try getting up to a little faster speeds. running the rpm's around 2200-2500 in 4-5th gear and you should notice it will stop, if not, then something is messed up. but yea, im prty. sure ur just running it at to low of an rpm. my car will do that to, my sisters bf. car will also do that.
Nope. I know that this situation only happens to me, cuz I had totaled the exactly same car before i bought another one on last july, and it never happened to the car I totaled. It also didn't happened to the car I have now before 2000miles. I've driven my friend's 08 lancer gts MT few weeks ago, and i couldn't hear that noise. I know it's normal that the car doesn't accelerate as much as at higher rpm, but it shouldn't make that weird noise. Then why does it makes that weird noise only around 1500-2000, not under 1500?? Range of 1500-1700 could be considered as low rpm, but not over 1700. I've driven many manual cars before, and i've never heard this kind of noise. I'll again bring my car to my damn dealership who said that they couldn't find any problem when I first brought it there last year. I think next time, I gotta drive and have them ride with me and let them hear.
well if you didnt do that the first time you went they probably didnt do shit...i also have a 09 GTS and i usually drive keeping the RPMs pretty low, and i will hear some ratiling noise come from the engine....ill see if i can make a sound clip today, i am starting to study mechanics and also have a few mechanic friends who cant seem to understand WTF is that sound, and its usually happens between the same range your saying, but im almost 9k miles and its happened for a while now...so yeah...ill try to get that clip today, now you know ur not alone, hehe
You drive your car in 4th and 5th gear under 1500-2000 rpm. I believe that is bad for your crankshaft. Causes more stress or something, I know I read an article somewhere, but I would have to look it up, wont be able to right now though becuase Im at work. But if it only make that noise at that low of an rpm why not just shift down and avoid the fuss? Dont know if you do it for gas mileage, but I dont drive the car that way and I still get 27-33 mpg on certain trips (40 miles), including stop and go between some lights for a part of the trip. Ive only done this one day becuase someone I know drives his Scion in low rpms and I decided to try it, I tell you what I will not do it again. I know some cars drive ok that way, but the gearing for our cars doesnt seem to be very comfortable handling that kind of load. I will try to see if I can find that article sometime this weekend but if not maybe someone else on here has seen it. Good luck with your dealer, but I suggest you be the one driving and show them personally.
