I'm about to buy a set of springs for my 08' Lancer but I need opinions from all of you Lancer owners on your springs. I'm considering about 1" drop around and so far Works got about 1.2" drop that I'm considering. Coilovers are out of the question due to cost, ( I need money to get a Mossberg 550 ). I will purchase a rear sway bar also for my car. :drunken: :drunken:
David check out our vendor, http://www.autocityimports.com They have many springs. if you stll wanna go with works, its ok because our vendor autocity is carrying them as well. i just got my RRM springs in the mail today, should be installing them this weekend. i've heard nothing but good things about their springs
how is the car affected in the long term, i heard that sometimes there is added tire wear or is that just in the cases that there is a faulty installation.
I should have look at them 1st, good website and all the brands there to see and compare. It could be good now to get any opinions from anyone with springs, good or bad an the springs they got on. :drunken: :drunken:
once you get them installed, make sure you let the car settle for about a week. after that, make sure you get an alignment. as long as you get an alignment and do the proper tire rotations, you should be ok. if you want a 1 inch drop, i'd suggest getting the Tanabe NF210s. they are only about 5-10% stiffer than the stock springs so that helps out your stock shocks/struts. you can find them for about $200.
Thanks for the info, I was thinking in doing the alignment right after install but I guess waiting a week like you said will help. Why is that? I just wanna know. :drunken: :drunken:
You want to wait to allow the springs and car to settle. When you first put the springs on, you won't notice a huge difference. Then after a certain amount of time from the cars weight and handling, the springs will "soften" a little and can drop another inch to inch and half. I feel that there is no time or calender date to go by. Most recommend that you go by milage. Most springs will be completely settled at 500 miles. With that said, a realignment is NOT required unless the springs drop the car more than 1.5". The RRM springs do not so it isn't required. I have had the springs on my car since August 2007 and have never noticed unusual tire wear.
This is the reason I wanted info from you Lancer owners outhere, thanks and I know a lot of other owners will benefit from this. :drunken: :drunken:
anytime you take apart your suspension, like for a spring install, the chances of getting them back together perfect is slim to nill. Therefore an alignment is not required but I highly advise you get one for better life of tires. After my spring install, Works 1.1, my camber was ok but it threw off the toe in the back. Just a heads up.
I've read on some sites taht you need to get a camber kit too if you get springs? What's the deal with that?
Only if you need to change the camber in the front. I have the camber kit and actually didn't need/use it. When i looked at the printout of the alignment the only thing that was off after springs was the rear toe. Granted I have the works which is a small drop to begin with.
is the 1inch drop really that noticable tho?.. i hate how high up are cars look in the front.. looking for a good drop in the front to give it a more aggressive look.. what do u guys reccommened?... any bad reviews on those tein s-techs?
when u use JUST springs it puts a lil more stress on ure struts, NOT ALOT, they wont like explode or anything, but after a long long time they may get damaged, i recommend coilovers since its the whole strut as opposed to just spring, as for drop the more you drop the more your tires lean in at the top towards the middle of the car, that will cause faster tire wear, no if u have a 1.1in drop it wont be super noticeable, u should get a camber kit tho, i mean if u got ure car from the dealer and they told u ure alignment was a lil off would u be happy with that, i know i wouldnt
My car dropped on works 1.1". No camber kit needed, toe was off by a little tho. Not a great picture I know. Oh, and the lugs are being painted.
i have tein s-techs with the 1.5 in the front and 1.0 in the rear and its nice 2 fingers in the front and 1 finger in the back. there cool but the only thing that make me mad is they squeak like every little dip it gets annoying after awhile.
You mean 2.1 f 1.9 r ? And mine don't squeak at all, there perfect.[/quote] yea that one i got mixed up but they squeak idk what could it be?? supposedly i just need to add grease on the top part to lube it cause its rubbing against the bump stop.
