I was thinking about changin the side signal lights to a bluish or white bulb. when i looked in the owners manual it said that i should 'consult the dealer' in order to change those bulbs. does anyone know what its talking about? is there a certain way to get the covers off? if i can do it, im going to change the parkin lights to the same as the side signals.
Keep in mind the owners manual will tell you basics here and there, but will ultimately try to send you to the dealer to do your work. More money for the dealers. Most side signal housings that are on/in the body work like on the lancer usually use a spring loaded hinge that can, with a little strength and effort, be popped out to reveal the bulb to be switched out. I would recommend just verifying this with the dealer first, but don't let them cheap you out of something as easy to switch as that. Also, keep in mind that, depending on your local laws, white/blue parking and turning signals are illegal. I know down here in Houston, TX and Harris County (which includes the city of Houston) it is illegal to have those. Granted, people put them on anyway, but any anal cop can easily pick them out and right you an expensive ticket for it. So, you might want to check with your local Police Department or their website to get the 411. Bill
ha i will most definitely not be paying for them to do this!! ill take it in and see what they say...i understand thier illegal in most states. ill have to check up on that here...cheers.
On my old EVO you could pop them off with a small flathead screwdriver. I would imagine it being the same way on this year's lancer as well! They can't make it impossible to get to it...gotta change it somehow at some point haha!
Im guessing it would be pretty sick...i finally got my intake and got my system installed so i have a little more time to focus on the small stuff now. ill keep peeps posted...if someone does get this done...please post some pics. cheers
last time i checked in south carolina the only lights allowed to be seen is white and amber in the front, amber from the sides, and red amber and white only while in reverse. It sucks because neons are illigal but nobody really enforces it.
i had blue ones on my old car and got one ticket then changed for stock bulbs, waist of money to pay up the tickets
if u r talking about the turning signal on the fender ,then yes i took mine out but here wasnt a way to change the bulb u have to change that whole unit
^^ If you don't mind me asking, how exactly did you take the side marker on the fender out? I tried to wedge a butter knife in between the turn signal and the fender to try to pop it off. I stopped because it looked like i was pulling part of the fender out.
Last nite I finally decided to take the side markers out and change the bulb. It was a bit of a pain in the ass to try to figure out on how to do it without damaging the housing. But with some hot heat from the oven and the use of a razor blade and a small flat head screw driver, I was able to pry open the housing and take out the plastic amber covers and replace the bulb with a white led wedge bulb. Here are some pics of the finished results.
