People use shift lights in racing because they can modify their gearing, so with that the shifting changes. Also they are so focused on the track that its easier to just have a light blink on so they know to shift. I doubt you will be dealing with either of those situations, so if you want it there for show, go for it.
I was just wondering if it would be a good way to learn when to shift. I don't really care for the look of it..
