ok well me and my friend got to talking about my car and about the SRI i want to get... he said it was a shame that the filter had to be so far back in the engine bay... so jokingly i said well let’s move the battery! lol! we talked about it more and we don't think that would be that bad of an idea! so my questions are...
    1. what do you guys think?
    - ya i know i will have to make a custom SRI cause i have not seen one that goes straight off the manifold...
    2. does anyone have a pic of their stock intake out just empty... try'n to see what’s under that air box... anything important... that’s where i wana put the battery...

as far as i can remember right now theres is nothing under the air box...if you take the box out youll be able to put the battery in its place...but keep in mind you will have to do something about the weiring because the factory cables wont reach that far back...to tell you the truth ive been thinking about this my self but placing the battery in the trunk...since i already have the power wire in place all i really have to do is remove the fake floor i have for the trunk and make a hole for the battery, which should take more than a few hours...and just connect that main wire from the trunk all the way to the front to the factory plug...but indeed you should be able to relocate the battery to where the air box goes with some creativity and imagination...just gotta find a way of putting the base where the battery sits...its 435am here, if it where sooner id go outside and have a look...ill do that later on today while i install my X-Factor mirrors...and give you any tips i can find... :D

The shop that I am sponsored by down here is sorta looking at the same thing. Because they actually want to fabricate a SRI for me, in which the filter is facing towards the front.

It's still in the planning stage right now... but if this does come through, I will certainly post up pics and try my best to give a DIY explaining every detail.

I wanted to do the same thing but, relocate the battery to the trunk. That also allows for a custom fabricated cold air intake to be made without the big bend that Injen has.

hell i already have the Injen CAI installed...i just want it in the trunk because it gives me more work space!! :D

I see, well one thing I was wondering was if I would lose some traction of the line becuase of the lost weight right next to the tire, I know its not that much weight, but relocating it can have its benefits and downturns as well.

Actually it would better distribute the weight evenly throughout the car, however nothin noticeable...

Right it would better distribute the weight, also one of the reasons I wanted to do did it in the Lancer. Ive done this to my 2G na eclipse and it opened up a lot of space in my engine bay, but the reason I was asking was becuase I was told I shouldnt have done it by some other car guys. I was explained that some of RWD drag racers do it so that it will help put more weight on there rear tires when launching, so they wouldnt burn out as much. I got my engine rebuilt soon after relocating my battery so I dont know if it really affected my traction on my left tire or not, but my car does seem to pull to the right more under heavy acceleration (So does my Lancer though). Some people also believe that you get slower cranking becuase of the extended cable length and that you put more stress on the battery. I havent experienced any such issues yet, so I feel ok placing my battery in my trunk of the lancer I just having really gotten to it lol.

Another thing to note here... some tracks will not allow you to run because of battery relocating... we all saw the horrible thing that happened to the dude's car... 8O

The few pounds that the battery sheds will not make any weight difference that a few weeks at the gym (or not at the gym) wouldn't make. However, the free space would be really nice to have.
