Ok.. so im kinda worried right about now.. this morning I got up and hopped into my ride started it up and let it run for about 4-5 mins cause of the cold weather.. I live in an APT complex and I got to a big hill and I went to give my car some gas and it wasnt going any where.. I ended up putting the pedal to the floor and it wasnt going anywhere.. so i stopped my car and tried again.. then I started going normally.. when i had the pedal to the floor my RPM's went to 2K and just stopped.. and I dont know why.. I went to work.. I got off work and went home and popped my hood and I hear a flapping kinda noise.. its coming from my belt.. so what does this mean? Was the pulley the reason why my car wasnt going and higher than 2K earlier in the day.. and why am I hearing a flapping noise from where my belt is? I'm kinda freaking out guys.. I need some advice on what to do.. I was reading on the pulley and it said something about making sure the pulley is harmonically balanced??? when my mechanic installed my pulley he took off the old one and bolted the new one right on.. the belt had fallen off and he put it all back on and made sure it was working correctly before I left.. Did he forget to do something? Also being that the pulley is lighter.. will that mess something up with the "brain" of the computer? insted of being at 3K its at 4K because of the lighter pulley.. so can that mess things up electronically or something? Any advice is most appreciated... help me out here guys..

    Thanks

Is this an RRM pulley? If it is I would contact them and see if they can help...

I would think the belt since you hear a flapping noise.

but what couses that prob? the belt is on correctly... is it not alligned correctly or something? I need to have an idea of whats going on before I take it to the shop .

Take it to the shop and see if they can find out what's the problem.

the pulley doesnt void warranty correct?

Only voids if it causes problems with your car and your car doesn't respond but I'm sure it doesn't since your basically replacing your old pulley with a better and newer one.

your dealer will have to prove that the pulley caused the problem.

if i were you (since your worried about taking it to your dealer) is taking it to a muffler shop and lifting it up. you'll get a better visual of the pulley from the bottom. whatever you "hear" might be something your mechanic can find.

could this be a simple prob? what could make that flapping sound?

how do i make sure my pulleys are harmonically balanced correctly?

i have no clue because i haven't seen or heard about a flapping sound coming from the belts. sorry bud. the pulley itself, is a light-weight version of the stock one. you'll be able to notice it right-away if you see your car from the bottom. obviously this is bugging you, find out what's up with the noise.

THere is nothing wrong with the pulley for sure. You may have sucked a rock in there and caused the belt to get damaged. There is nothing to do with balance etc... There are too many pullies with ZERO issues. Call me if you like and we can discuss your particular issue but it is surely not an issue that has to do with design or workmanship of the pulley. 10-4 PAC time I am at the shop. ASk for me. ROb.

so it has nothing to do with balance? how could a rock have gotten in there... it has that plastic guard coverign the pulley. but i dont have to worrie about harmonic balance or anything?

    Hi,

I dont own the pully, but I will get it eventually, so I have been reading up on peoples experiences and install tips...

From what I understand there is a tension screw or something that you must adjust to tighten/losen the belt.

It almost sounds as if the belt is either to loose, causing it to slip and maybe damaging it in the process, if it is to loose, then this could explain why it wasnt responding while you were giving gas...

Or, perhaps the mechanic that installed it tightened it too much and the excess stress on the belt cuased it to tear, this could explain why your hearing the flapping noise.

    Just something to think about.

Stock pulleys haver rubber built in them to reduce vibration caused by the crankshaft. Aftermarket pulley's generally never have this and could* cause potential increased wear. Some people never experience a problem and others do, its really dependent on the situation. Chances are that there is something else wrong besides the pulley as you haven't had it on very long at all.

well i got up early this morning to take my car for a drive... the flapping noise is gone.. so im not gonna worrie about it much anymore unless it starts happening again.. im still gonna bring it by my mechanics shop and have him take a look at it.. Thanks for all your help.
