Lately my 08 lancer has been driving like ass. It doesn't have the pull above 3000 rpms that it had and it is more likely to bog down in the low rpms. There is also a definate change in exhaust/intake/engine noise right around 3200 rpms that was never there before. It almost sounds like a have an intake which is kind of weird because my car is completely stock. I have only 20000 miles on my car I don't think that stuff like this should be happening so early in the life of the car. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Any help is appreciated.

Have you checked your air filter, it might be REALLY dirty. And are you carrying more weight than usual. Even with having an extra person or two I can feel a big difference. Keep in mind thats about ~300 lbs probably more for two people, but the sounds difference shouldnt be to much if that were the case.

Check the air filter. Also, are u due for an oil change? Our cars are always peppier after an oil change and bog down the closer they get to needing an oil change.

Problem solved. It was definatly the airbox not being closed right. It appeared closed and good but it was the two damn hooks on the bottom of the box. One/both must not of been on right. My baby is back to how it should be. Silly me not noticing the clips on the bottom. I even checked the airbox twice after the problems started.   :compress:

what im trying to figure out is how do you lose power with more air flow?? if the airbox was a bit open it would breath more...wouldnt it?

I believe the air-fuel ratio would be off, i may be wrong tho.

but if that were the case when you put an SRI or CAI which both breathe better the ratio would also be in play...wouldnt it?

It will increase your air flow yes, but enough that the ecu could adapt and equal it out. An open air box supplies a lot of air.

Plus your main air will bypass your MAF sensor, thats prolly mainly where your power loss come from. Your MAF sensor said somethings wrong.
