Porting is essentially a process that slightly enlarges a few choice items: Cylinder heads, intake manifold, throttle body, for example. If you don't know what those parts are you can google them or look them up. They are parts of a internal combustion engine.

Polishing is essentially just that. Just as you would polish the paint on your car for a smooth defect free finish so would you polish the inner surfaces of your engine, intake manifold, throttle body, cylinders, cylinder heads, etc... Doing this allows for more effective airflow into and out of the engine of your vehicle.

If you want more in depth information how how to do, or simply for more research you can simply search on Google, Yahoo, or any other search engine for "port and polishing"

there is different levels of porting also. i think if you did all of the bolt ons and had a VERY MILD port that it would be effective.

no way that is a smart post. if you get something like that done be very careful, have a pro do the job, and dont go too crazy. its not an un fathomable thing to do. now that is something that will void your warranty if they find out about it, and who knows if it throws a CEL? well all have to wait and see! cuz someones gonna make it happen!(the porting) just remember, a WILD port will ruin this engine, a MILD port will be effective in my opinion!

This is strange. My dealership must be one of a kind. The head mechaninc has well over 20 years working on custom installs. They will install RRMs turbo, the STS universal, hell basically anything i want done they have always said they would install it. But if they install the turbo and it fails is my warranty void?? If the dealership installed the parts do they not have to honor thier work? Sorry to get odd the topic. But its just on my mind im going to have a bit of free cash shortly and im really looking at a turbo system. Well im actualy lookin at an EVO X but i cant see 2 car payments lol.

    LoL,

    SRSLY?

think about what you are saying, Does the fact that a dealer installs something make it so that Mitsubishi will still warranty your car?

you modify your car with a turbo you will lose all oem warranty coverage.

    common sense on this one.

Not if the dealership installs it. Especially if its a RRM Turbo. Seeing as Mitsubishi had RRM research the Lancer Ralliart and Galant Ralliart chassis, and engine improvements. Who do you think developed the Lancer Turbo? But again, if the dealer installs it they have to cover the work, and can't void your warranty.

Its like having your Acura dealer install a Comptech supercharger on your NSX, or a Ford dealership install a Roush Stage 3 Supercharger. Factory authorize performance parts, with full factory warranty.

i'm pretty sure if it's the turbo at fault (and unless they say or write otherwise) then they will not cover your warranty... however if it was because they messed up the instillation, then yes they would have to honor the warranty

    Correct,

Warranty services are like insurances, they are in business to keep their money.

They will find any excuse not to cover something RRM may have a union, but its not a company supported nor sponsored product line. if it was you would see it advertised thru Mitsu saying, Customize your car with these products and maintain your warranty! RRM sadly is not a partner :(

Get installed at dealer a and have to go to dealer b and watch them say they wont cover.

There is the way it should be or would be,

but that is never the way it is.

port polish aims to just improve flow of the engine and due to its high cost and relatively minor gains you'd leave it to one of the last things you do. It just gets rid of any inperfections where things join and smooths out all the pipes etc to improve flow.

Boring isnt included in this though. you can bore out your pistons to increase your CC, can also bore out your throttle body to get better response and sometimes some extra power, the fuel rail can also be bored to increase fuel flow which generally improves response etc etc. though it isnt a part of port polish.

But yeah... all that stuff is expensive and people with turbo's dont seem to bother unless they are going pro or something becuase there are other much cheaper ways to up the hp. In an N/A engine build it will be much more common since after the basic bolt on's everything starts getting expensive so the cost of a port polish and getting things bored out doesnt seem so bad.

As a side note... still waiting on someone to make up an oversized throttle body for the 08's or at least find one from another mitsu that bolts up without a CEL. Perhaps the 4B12 has a larger diameter TB which will bolt up... could be worth a try.

If I was you I stick with mods that are bolt ons or easy to undone without voiding your warranty. Port and polish is a job I wouldn't do to any car under 2 years old unless you got the money, the shop and the back up from experts doing the job. Also I believe, if I'm not wrong, that your ECU will have to change to compensate for the extra gaings in HP and as well as some of your sensors.

actually there was an idot in import tuner that thought that hooking up a bag of fine grain sandblasting sand to his car would polish it. but then it started making this knocking sound and died. i laughed...alot.
