I bought a 2008 Lancer DE last August, with everything included it ended up coming to ~24k ... I regretted it cause the feature/price difference from DE to ES wasn't really that big, but I wanted the new car now and didn't want to wait, so I went for the DE anyway.

I just got a call from the dealer, the salesman said he has a '09 SE demo model that they are trying to sell, and he tought of me cause I had told him about how I kind of regretted not going for the ES before... Right now I pay 165 bi-weekly on the 60/84 term, and he said the '09 SE would be 171 bi-weekly on the 60/84 term. Now unfortunately he spoke with my wife, and I didn't get many details, but I'm wondering if you guys think that price would be after everything was finished, or if there may be left over on my current loan for the '08 DE that I would have to pay on top of the 171 for the '09 SE? What do you think, would something like this be worth it? I just learned that I have ~21k remaining on my loan, which is sad considering I've paid over 9k on it already... but I'm not too well versed in these things ...

(all these prices are CDN$).. I just don't want to be blinded by getting something newer and shinier, but paying more than it's worth. ..

you are going to be negitive your car is worth about 10- 13 thousand on trade in. to me it all depends on the deal.

Ho yes.. .that is what he said... But look at his description, he's from canada, like me... don't forget that the Lancer, like everything else is at least 30% more up here !!

    i have a 09 GTS with S&S and after alot of negociation, i ended up paying 195 bi-weekly !

To answer the question, i am pretty sure that price is the regular price without the trade-in...

Its still the same car if its a DE or ES...If you can get a deal on the X or RA, try doing that.

What don't you like about the DE aside from the obvious difference in features? I would honestly just cut your losses and mod the DE since you will be losing out on the trade in. Aside from the S&S package you can order the ground effects and spoiler from the dealership already painted, rims are a dime a dozen (give or take), if you don't have power locks or fogs those are easy enough fixes, you can even swap over parts from the GTS such as the improved shocks or tower bar; you can pretty much make it identical and keep the lower payment. You're payment of $330 isn't terrible as I'm paying $308 for a DE as well due to a negative equity situation with my trade in. The $12 dollar increase a year (if that's your actual payment with trade in) but I can't see how it would only go up that much since they have to pay off your loan.

I agree. your better off keeping what you have and using that money to get after market and/or dealer/factory mods added to your car. the only real advantage, if they offer it in canada, is having the more powerful engine if you traded up to a GTS, RA, or EVO.

Well I went in to check it out, they offered me 369 a month for the '09 SE which included the trade in. It was nice, and had a lot more options than my car, but in the end I didn't go for it... I figured I've already paid ~10,000 on my car already, and this car would've been a good 4500-5000 more than mine, so in the end, I would end up paying almost 15,000 for tint, spoiler, steering wheel controls, body kit, fogs, heated seats, armrest, and rear swarbar pretty much. In the end, the main reason I wanted to trade it in was for the spoiler/body kit, rims, and the arm rest (you never realize how much you miss something so little until you don't have it!) ... And I'm sure I could buy those for less than 5k, meaning that I would save 10k not buying it. The only problem I'm still facing is how to get an arm rest.. Anyone have any ideas?

junk yard and/or ebay. there are lots of 'parts finders' online also. goto their sight email them what your looking for and they can canvas salvage yards nationwide to get you what you need, though it might be a bit more expensive than you realize. also just stop in the parts dept of your local dealer and see what/if they can offer.
