Hi folks...I recently got my driving license, and am gonna buy the Lancer 2007 GLS tomorrow. Already gave a downpayment and everything, so it's 100% definite. It's gonna be my first car, but am not so sure about it.

The car is white in color and hasn't been modified in any way.

What, according to experienced modders, are recommended mods for the 2007 Lancer?

I've already planned on getting HID or projector headlights, and possibly an underglow neon. But I've got sooo many questions regarding that! How long do the HID/projector headlights last? And the underglow...will I be able to control it from a button in the car? Will the underglow lights get spoiled if I drive it through a foot of water?

    Waiting for an update!

Welcome to LT and congrats on the first car. I don't have projectors, but I have had 3 different brands of HID kits. I recommend the DDM Tuning kits.....There are many members here that run them. As for the life of HID's, I really can't tell you about the current kit I have...It hasn't failed me in the year that I've had them in.

Underglows...I had them on my old truck as well as when I first bought my Lancer. They are a fairly simple install...operated by a switch or control unit that comes with the kit. I would go with an LED kit....the regular neon style lights have a tendancy to break. Plus, the LED's don't use as much power as the traditional neons.

Keep us Updated on what you get, and we'll help you out as much as we can without actually doing it for you...lol

Thank you, lancer2quick. Sorry for being a total dolt, but which are the brightest lights? HID, projectors or Xenons?

HID's are by far the brightest. projectors i believe are standard now and xenons are just a tad brighter and bluer than oem lights. So get hid's and buy jrox drl bypass unit. And I have to agree. LED's are the way to go with under lighting. These aren't the cheapest but I would recommend them.

and most people buy an intake and exhaust for there car as well to make it sound good and depending on the car it may boost performance as well.

just remember if you live in an area where it rains a lot don't do a cold air intake as it is normally position behind where the fog lights would go (in front of your wheels) which is very close to the ground. I bought a cold air intake from L2Q and converted it to a short ram intake just because it randomly rained the other day. Im too lazy to change it back.

More recommended mods would include either coil-overs ($850+) or lowering springs($50 cheap ebay ones to $250 name brand ones). But for both options depending on the drop you get you are going to need a camber kit which can be bought just about anywhere on the internet for Lancers. I bought mine from roadracemotorsports.com for when I get the cash/time to buy/install coil-overs.

A lot of ppl also get bigger wheels too. But with that come new tires.

    Beginners mods are as follows
    HID KIT
    Intake
    Exhaust

And of course for big spenders there is going turbo. Upgrading internals etc, etc,. That's for later when you become a bit more knowledgable on the subject and want a bit more performance out of your ride.
Oh yea I forgot the cosmetic part of it too. Such as spoilers, body kits, etc. Im sure there are more but for now I shall keep you in the ask and recieve area. Not to be a jerk but it's a bit over whelming if you take it all on at one time.

I'll get the HIDs soon...but don't want to bypass the DRLs. They look kinda cool...especially the Audi ones. Thanks jogenmaru for the links...I won't be able to shop online (since I don't have a bank account yet), but it certainly gave me an idea of what to look for when buying the LED strips.

I'll get bigger wheels and nice rims too...what's the maximum wheelsize which works on the 2007 Lancer?

And another question: could you give me some more info on the cold air intake system? I live in Dubai, and it's hotter than a fly's shithole in here. If there're mods which can make my car cooler without having adverse effects on my car, I'll be more than happy to listen.

Alright...I've got a thought...how would my Lancer look with a matte black finish, and LED underlights? I saw someone was pretty good with PhotoShop over here...so I just need to see how the color will look on my car. [IMG]

Flat black looks really good sometimes, but is kind of overplayed. I still think with the right type of car, it can look hella fresh. Lol. A fridn of mine has underglow on his truck and it was really simple to install.

the drl bypass is for anti flicker. The drl's will flicker on and off with the hid light in them. I dont know why that is. Something with not enough voltage going to them because of the hids.
Wheel size..im not sure what the 2007 lancer looks like. Dont know if its the US equivalent to 7th gen or 8th gen. But if you look at our progress reports...HUNK, Lancer2quick, and I have 7th gen lancers. JDMFlow, JDMhammer, Sinestra all have 8th gen lancers. The max on a 7th gen and it look good would be 17's and with a proper drop. I think the max with 8th gens would be 18 or 19 with a proper drop. Most 8th gens do 18's for fear of 19's being way too big.

Cold air intakes are only called that because it pulls air outside the engine bay which is cooler than inside the bay. If it doesnt rain a lot where you stay at then go for it. But if you indeed have an 8th gen lancer you should go with a short ram intake. It's safer in the water aspect and provides better hp. Which is a bit weird cuz it should be the same just at different parts at the power band. But no one has figured our why that is.

Thanks for the info, jogenmaru. Mine is the 8th Gen 2007 Lancer (the red one which squid has which's on voting for Ride of the Month). What're the typical costs of installing a short ram intake? Could you provide me with a link, so I know what to look for here?

And what're the disadvantages of having 19" tires? And (sorry), what's a 'proper drop'?
