Ok.. so ive had my car about 2 months now.. and recently when I go over speed bumps and when I go around some turns I hear a knocking sound... it sounds like something is swinging and knocking left to right ans some times when I stop it sounds like "it" swings foward and makes a knocking sound... its weird I know... but its coming from the back of my car.. not the front.. kinda sounds like its in the trunk.. but I took everything out of the trunk and I still hear it... I have no idea what it could be.. what ever it is I know its nothing major.. but i would just like to know what it is.. maybe shocks?? should I take it to my dealer? Thanks in advance guys.
By taking everything out, did you include the spare tire and all of the tools (jack, etc.). If those came loose, they definitely would make a sound. Also, try jacking the car up or backing it onto some basic $20 auto ramps you can get at Pep Boys. You may notice what has come loose and save some $$$ from the dealer BSing you out of your money for a simple fix. Bill
I took it to mitsu.. and they couldnt even really tell me.. they told me its a new car and im gonna hear stuff... but its def a noise thats annoying me.. I took everything out of the trunk including the spare, jack EVERYTHING.. even the carpet and the piece of wood.. i still dont know what it is.. i had it up on a lift and everything is nice and tight.. any ideas?
I know this is going to sound funny.... but is the sound like cow bells! ROFL! I know.... but I swear when I give a jolt to my car.... it makes a chime sound from where you are describing!!! I noticed it yesterday.... my car is only 5 days old.
A couple of things for yall to check: 1) Examine under the back end of the vehicle with a flash light. Look for anything that has come loose, fallen off its braket, or like wise. 2) Check to see if there is any noticable signs of excess wear any where. If there is a metal bracket like the oil pan protector, skid plate (if you have one), or some other location that shows like its scraping or moving, that will quickly narrow possibilities. 3) Have a mechanic whether dealer or a certified mom and pop place (or even yourself if you are up to it) examine the shocks/Struts/Linkage and control arms/axels on both the front and back. Little rubber grommets called brushings are commonly used between metal pieces, especially in the shock/strut locations, to further help nullify and reduce road noise and vibration. These parts can and will wear out and begin to squeak and pop under the car that can make them sound like something else or in a place you don't think they would be. These parts will wear quicker for those in climates of variance where warm and cold frequently switch or are one is extended for long periods of time as well as if the driver has a more aggressive tendency to drive the vehicle under normal day to day operation.
