i'm thinking about getting a hood, so i figure i might jump ahead a bit and start my research...so heres my one question, carbon fiber and fiberglass, i know what they are...but can you tell a difference??? i def want the RRM evo extreme hood, but theres a $200 differece between CF and FG...i know the CF will be lighter, but visually is there a much of a difference??? thanks everyone

i would recommend CF over FG. ur gona use that 200$ to paint the hood anyways if u get FG.. soo in the end they would cost around the same.
cf is lighter and it cracks only if u hit something
fg is more fragile and would shatter if u hit something.

    very helpful, thank you

i figured that the CF would be better seeing as how i have a black lancer...i hate having to wait for something, then waiting even longer to get it painted, so that pretty much makes up my mind

i was thinking the same thing, to paint the fg it would take more time and more money, for painting and molding rather then with carbon fiber you just slap it on

not if you WANT it painted. i don't want to show it off. CF or FG, it would match my octane blu. on top anyway, i'd leave CF unpainted underneath.

^ I would want my CF painted too, but that all depends on what color car Im putting it on and what my other goals for the car are. Im my lancer I would probably paint it too.

i prob wouldnt paint it, my car is black so i think it'd be cool...i'm a valet driver in downtown san antonio so i see some pretty cool cars come through, a couple months ago we had a brand new BMW M6 all black with a CF hood, roof, and interior...it was pretty nice, i feel like on cheating on my lancer haha (i hope look but dont touch doesnt apply)

i have a cf hood on black and it looks great, lots of comments but the differences in the visual is when you go up to the cf hood and look at you see those square like patterns and it gives off the kind of sheen that fiber glass does not have. i would go with the carbon fiber get an extra gloss coating to protect it from the sun instead of painting a fiber glass hood that wouldnt look nearly as nice, but thats just my opinion. to me fiber glass is just half-as%

Ok I'm wanting to get a hood for my gts but I don't want either of the above mentioned. I'm looking at getting the evo style hood but painted rally red which is the same as my car. I priced the dealer and they want about a grand. Anyone know any other places that might be cheaper?

Sadly other than the dealer, if you're looking for the OEM EVO hood, the dealer is your only option. Everything else is going to be aftermarket look-alikes (that aren't exactly the same, but look somewhat similiar)---but those are almost always carbon fiber or fiber glass.

Yeah I kinda thought so. Appreciate the info. Looks like that's the way I'm headed. It should run about $1300-$1500 after painting is what I was quoted from the dealer if anyone is looking to do the same thing.
