Alright guys I have searched for a pretty good 3 hours today trying to find some kind of write up on how to install my fogs, in which didn't come with any instructions..So they have just been sitting in my closet but now want to get them installed, Yes I can probably wire it to the ignition wire or somewhere along those lines, but my problem is I want them to be my DRL as well. So at first contacted the stealership to see if they can wire them for me, and then i can just follow the tutorial on how to convert DRL to fog in the how to section on my own, but they want my first born in exchange. So if their is anybody out their who can plz assist with this, it would be greatly appreciated ANyways Thanx iun advance
I am not sure how to hook them into your DRLs (I have not done mine), but I am sure you can fine some schematics of our car online and go from there if you are knowledgable about how wiring works.
this is the how to for converting to fog to DRL viewtopic.php?f=119&t=2587. but i don't know how to install the fogs. the wiring is not to bad. just follow the how to on the wiring.
Jacob1bc I appreciate your input and help but the main issue with following "vik2rius" write up is it's was only tailored to a lancer which already had the fogs installed and wired, mine didnt come stock with the fogs. So I can't possibly follow because all he did was switch the cabling around, if I attempt to do this I won't have headlights.. But on that note, if their is anybody else who chime in with some input, maybe some of our vendors who may know how the wiring works..
I installed my fog lights no problem... I'm gonna be a little busy tonight as well as tomorrow to give a really detailed write up. The hardest part is getting the wires from the engine bay through the firewall in order to install the switch for the fogs... I'll take a picture tonight and post it up for you guys to take a look possibly around midnight. From what I remember it's pretty self explanatary as to wear the fog lights and harness goes. The relay just needs to be secured to something sturdy (I used on of the many bolts inside the engine bay.) Then for the power there is a fuse slot specially designated for the fog lights which can be found under the dash for the steering wheel (the exact spot can be found in the user manual of your car). You will need to remove the front bumber in order to feed the power line from one fog to the other (theres a how to somewhere on here if I remember). Again... I'm sorry I couldnt be more detailed or provide pics but I'm very limited to resources right now as I am at work! Hope this helps somewhat
well if you don't care about having it on a switch. you can always wire it straight to the headlights. this is what i did to my wifes car and suv. now she wants me to put them on here new car. i would put a fuse on the hot wire and wire it the to the headlight hot and the ground doesn't really matter were you put it. the only think is when your headlights are on your fog wil to. i didn't mind because i would always forget to turn them of.
yeah I thought about doing this but decided that I would like my fogs to act as my drl, so when in the future when i decided to go with hids wont have to worry about drl on the headlights
Here's the how to on the bumper removal: http://forums.evolutionm.net/lancer-how ... moval.html My firewall pic will be up sometime LATE tonight (midnight?) because my shift ends late
OK... so heres the summary for the following pictures: In pic 1 I'm showing you were I fed the wire for the fuse and for the fog light switch. It is fed through the rubber grommet directly behind the stock intake. BE CAREFUL! This grommet holds the entire electrical harness for the car's system! In pic 2 is a closeup of the grommet... notice how I try and stick to the very edge. I wedged open a gap with a screwdriver and fed the wire through with a coat hanger. In pic 3 I am showing where the wire should come out. It's located underneath the dash directly behind the head unit... Hope this helped out the process! post if you have any other questions.
good pics LTDan, only thing i would change is running the wire through a grommet so it is not rubbing against the metal body.
Haha... funny thing is that I thought about that only AFTER I was finally able to fit these wires through. My bass wire is a 2 gauge and took me forever to wedge through that wall!
ok.. so I looked at the foglight setup and somewhat remember what I did now. The foglight needs 2 power sources. The foglights itself have a red wire which is tapped directly to the battery terminal and hooked up via the relay. This section also requires a ground. Then there is a wire that runs to the switch inside the car located on the dash under the steering wheel. This switch also requires a ground as well as a power source which I tapped into the fuse panel for the light that is located inside the switch itself. Hopes this helps with the setup!
Here's the "How To" for that in case you were searching and couldn't find it. viewtopic.php?f=119&t=2587&p=29828&hilit=fog+drl#p29828 vik2rius does a really good job explaining every step of the process... plus he accomplishes the DRL swap so that it is easy to switch back to normal setting if you decide it's not what you expected
so I NEED HELP LIKE ASAP. so i can get this done and working. I pretty much have everything together other than the power to the battery connected and this green wire. the wire harness that connects under the dash to the switch has a green and black wire out of the side of it. I know the black is ground. What and where do i plug the green wire up too? please help
