Well, They always say, nothing ventured, nothing gained... so in that spirit I gambled and tried to mesh something American muscle with something Japanese econobox, lol I went to a local guy and had em make a quick Flowmaster axel-back for me... just to see how it would work out.... I decided on a 50 series delta flow. I guess its ok, but it didn't end up sounding like I thought it would ... just a little louder and deeper then stock, but thats about it. The car does feels a little more peppy when I step on it, but I will admit it could be an actual increase in performance, or it just might be a phycological thing... The flowmasters are a bit bigger then Magnaflows' and run a little hotter too, so it hangs a little lower then, say RRMs does.... just enough that you can see a peek of the mufller from the back and side. So, I'm going to take it off this weekend and paint the canister/pipes a flat black (using exhaust paint of course). heres some pics... ** edit, videos next couple of posts ****
Sounds almost just like stock, which is good as I would prefer it. I think the flat black paint will look nice on it. There sure is a lot of smoke though.
Well... it is only 5 degrees out right now, my garage is like antartica, lol 8O heres the other view.. I might have saved it in the wrong format before, I'm noob to video.
Hehe  . There was only three options. Your car is incredibly lean. There was so much dust on your garage floor. It was incredibly cold. Glad it wasn't the other two. The exhaust looks nice though, I just wish the finish on it was a lot better. I assume not all muscle exhausts look like that right?
^ yeah, they sell stainless steel versions of the 50 series, but flowmasters are generally more exspensive then alot of mufflers. Its becuase they use interior baffles instead of a striaght-thru/packing design, so more goes into the making of them. So, basically, I wasnt going to spend a fortune on ... well, a gamble I guess you can call it. Thats why I just went with an alluminized steel canister, so if it came out really bad I wouldnt be out to much money.
It does feel a little more peppy, not much... but enough to notice, more-so in sport mode over drive mode. So far about the same gas comsumption.. maybe about 1-2 mpg less then normal, but I'll atribute that to driving a little harder then usual and letting the RPMs rise up in sportmode... after-all, its a new mauffler, I want to hear it I also noticed that the flowmaster sounds alot better once it has had a chance to heat up. After work yestuday I had to drop of a co-worker at home, so my drive took a good deal longer then normal. By the time I got home, the car had a really really deep sound to it, and was noticably louder. I dont know if its true, but I was told that they usually get deeper after a 2 week break-in period, then stay the same sound/tone for their lifespan. It dont make sense becuase its welded baffles and theres no packing material... but I keep hearing it from alot of people that flowmasters have a break-in period from about 2 weeks to a month... I guess Ill find out.
