this may sound dumb, but ive noticed in other newer cars, when u shift into Drive, all the doors lock. is there a way to set our cars to do the same
    thanks

Yup, as you put it into drive, press the lock button. Easy and no wiring :)

I imagine it would be too much cost and work to do. Is there a specific reason you want them to lock?

i agree with 2k8 if it's possible it will most likely cost an arm and a leg but if you have an automatic u can still drive with out an arm and a leg i would go for it!

the way our cars are set up... i would think it's actually pretty easy................ for mitsubishi. i'm betting its just adding/rearranging some coding in the ECU. the dam thing controls almost everything else, lol

to do it as a "hardware" hack might not be *terribly* bad, but deffinatley not a project i'd be interested in doing. and i seriously reccomend that if you don't have a good grasp of electrical systems you don't attempt it either. but should you choose to do it,here is a breif guesstimation of what you *might* need to do:

you would probably need a wiring diagram to figure out what wires going to the tranny transmit what signals back to the ECU. then tap the wires that transmit that the car is in any other gear besides park to feed a relay. the relay inturn wires up in line, after the "lock" button on the door locks. then do the same with the "park" wire and another relay for the "unlock" button.

also keep in mind (this i know from experience, lol) to replace a fried ECU in our cars is going to cost you minimum $1800 for the part alone, not including the labor, etc.

Wow I think I only understood 1 word in that entire post... wire. The rest was like Japanese to me.

There may be an option on the Navigation to enable this. I remember reading something like this in the manual. If not, you can always ask your dealer.

i hear ya on that one. if i tried that things would start exploding, babys would cry and people would spontaneously combust.

personaly im very glad the 08-09 dont have that self locking mech .
think about it for a second
your driving down the road your door auto locks then a deer jumps out of the brush in front of you naturally you swerve you lose control and flip over on your roof your dazed or worse and anyone that tries to help you cant open the door to help you get out

do you really want that function?? i dont just in case

Actually..the 08 and up Lancer DOES have a way to do this...IF you have the Rockford System and Hard drive in it...you just go into Info and then System settings...you can set a bunch of stuff in there from lights turning off after a certain time and whether or not the doors lock when it goes into drive to whether or not the blinker does a three blink when u just flick the lever. It's all wired right into the ECU, so if you have that setup check it out!!

That only for the ones with the navigation system? Or do you have to plug in your computer and run hardware?
