I dont know where i came up with this and im not even sure if this belongs in the section but i was driving home the other day and as i started from the light i got an Idea. As i was shifting from 1st to 2nd i released the gas bumped the shifter up and then got back on it. I got the little shift shock that i love from a manual. It just kinda made me smile. Now i find myself doing it with out realizing it.

A friend of mine did something similar to his Corolla to make it seem like a standard car. I'm not saying it will happen to you, but after a couple of months, he broke the engine mount. And his engine be jumping when ever he changes gears.

:( been there, done that myself...not a good thing to do with slowmatics...also (not with the CVT) down/upshifting with autoshifters manually will kill your tranny...i learned that the hard way.

so all of us that have CVT shouldnt bother to tune because we will never be as fast as the manual lancers, right???

well not exactly. i mean, with the right tunning up, and dedication to your fix, you can get a pretty quick ride, no matter what type of transmission you running.

remember, the engine is some what like a math equation. don't matter how complex it is, or the level its in. with the right mind and right technique, you can get a perfect solution. :D and in our case, a great ride.

and the famous words from REDLINE, lol.... "IT'S NOT THE CAR, IT'S THE DRIVER""

Question... if i shift and let off the gas and get that jump.. and i do it a lot.. your saying im gonna mess up the tranny? or will i just need new motor mounts?

Well if you been doing that for a while now, and you can feel that kick when ever you change gears, don't hesitate to get it checked.

My friend hesitated to get it checked, and ended up buying a whole new transmission.

my car only jumps when i make it jump... if i just put my foot on the gas and change gears its smooth as silk.. so am I ok? I dont hear or feel anything different from the 1st day i bought my car.

Well you should be good then. But if your doing that manual trick thing, you might feel something later in the engine. The kick starts off small, then builds up later.

    How about this..

I've never done that before.. but if I redline or change gears in high rpms.. i get a little jump without letting the gas pedal off. I assume this would be normal at higher rpms? Lower rpms are smooth.

so... what is the point of the paddle shifter? :(

the paddle shifters doesn't play a part here. it's what you do with the stick. in my friends case, he always starts off at 1st (L), then shifts up, and so on.
