I just thought I would show some of the work I've been doing lately. Some members from the Galant sites want me to do some stuff for them. My items I kinda rushed on JUST so I could see what I need to change when I do the real thing on theirs. I like to learn with practice before I really do it. Yes it might be wasting MY carbon fiber, But I want others to be happy with the quality so I'm just trying to see different wants to get each part perfect. My first try ever was a miserable FAIL. I put the CF diagonal and it just got cut so choppy. Now, this is my currant work that is only about 75% done. Im willing to do work on other parts too. Ill post up more stuff as I get it done. If you are going to hate, think of 2 things, HAVE YOU TRIED? and WILL YOUR POST REALLY MEAN ANYTHING? To those of you that have worked with CF, Please give me corrective critism if you know what you are talking about. I got some good info off some Galant members but help is always welcomed.
working with cf, you have to HAVE patience. Patience is the big key. I am sure you have noticed that on a few pieces you worked with it.
thanks, id like to add a few new pics. i bought a dremel today to do some final touches and some important work, well for the 10-20 min i got in use before it broke, this is what was done. ^cut the edges down and sanded them to better fit into the space in my car ^added a new clear coat that you brush on, smooth as glass. ^v trimmed the top area, and around the handle. i need to re-spray the handle because i sanded some of the black paint off. its a work in progress.
good stuff man. where can you find CF? i def wanna give this a shot. btw..hope you are going to get rid of the wood trim with CF.
Man thats looks pretty good to me, I know I couldnt do something like that. I really dont dig the the wood trim with the CF either though lol. Have you thought about covering the parts that are 'woodgrain' with CF as well?
its all a work in progress right now, a bit too cold to do much work. smells like crazy so cant do it inside. you pretty much get a bad high off the shit. more will come sooner or later, thanks for the comments and ideas tho 8)
lol i hate it. gave me the worst head ache for 3-4 days. i learned to NEVER do it inside again. a fellow member of a galant site was running 4 fans after i tried to warn him (he was doing FG)
lol, o ok. Hey maybe you can do a how to, so that us normal people that dont know how to mess with that kind of stuff can give it a shot lol. That is if you dont decide to make a business out of it lol.
not looking to make it a business, like i said in a PM to blackoz, i just do it on the side for fun/help those that dont want to try or have the money to try. you pay shipping both ways and depending on the size of the part, cover my expenses and the part will be wrapped for you. i will try to do a true How To on my next few pieces. i did how ever, start to put a how to together but it really didnt show much. to be honest, i read everything i could about doing carbon fiber. i watched every video i could find. Nothing explained it better then saying "fuck it" and going for it on my own. ive learned so many "lessons" or "new ways" to do it right the more i do it. it would be nice to start a cheap price good quality CF business in the future, but for now its all fun and games except when im doing it for others. ill do the best i can for other peoples parts.
cool, I wouldnt mind giving something like that a shot, but I would have to use parts from my 2G eclipse lol, older and parts are more readily available and cheaper lol.
yeah basically i have a whole second interior for my car makes a good "test" and then i can still go stock 8)
Well, here is my newest project. It has a secret to keep it together but i have NO resin/hardener on it at all. I must say, I wish i could find a way for the raw carbon fiber to stay like this and not get damaged because it looks soo much nicer. there is only 1 or 2 spots that it got a little wavey and that happened when I was trying to get the rubber part back onto the plastic insert. otherwise this thing looks awesome. I just wish there was a way to keep it mostly raw cf and still protect it. what do you all think? the pattern is much nicer then my old stuff too, its thinner and easier to work with.
Is there anyway you could just clear coat it? Ive never worked with carbon fiber so Im just throwing things out there.
