Wanted to ask if anyone knows how long a CF hood will last (in Texas if possible) and how should I care for one when I get it? Can I wax it like a painted one? Any input would really be helpful.
It really depends on the weather there. You can wax it. Its no different than a regular hood if you get the carbon fiber with the uv protection and clear coat. Just wax by hand an dont use a buffer. If you get a dry carbon fiber hood I would baby the hell outta of. As you cant let it get rained on or anything. I know in texas the weather is almost like VA'. Rain for a couple of days then hot humid weather. You can care for it just like a normal hood but beware it does wear faster than a normal hood.
Like Jog said, if you keep a good coat of wax on it, it should last a while. A buddy of mine had his sanded and sprayed with 3 coats of clear before he even installed...he has had it on his mustang for about 4 years now with no fading. All he does is claybar and wax it a couple times a year...but that's an added expense (200-300 bucks) on top of the cost of the hood.
Thanks all. Im looking at the one at RRM and also Rexspeed. It will be a while before I can afford it but I want to have some idea of what I am getting into. I love the CF look and I want to keep it looking in top shape after I actually get it. Thanks again guys. Oh any other brands recomended other than the two I mentioned?
If I happen to do anything else to my car significant, I think it would be a cf trunk. Don't know why, but think it would look good with the grey.
i got the carbon creation concept gt hood.. looks great!! to maintain its color i spray wax it with every time i wash the car excesive... maybe... but it cant hurt it!!
