ok so today i did two things: 1. got the center consle off and the area around the shifter 2. ran the rca cable from the rca jacks back to my glovebox i also ran my interior neon wires directly to the cigarette lighter under the radio (very clean install compared to connecting it to a fuse and grounding it) all u have to do is distinquish your positive and negative wire and then splice into them. then wrap your neon wires around the matching wire. then there are two options......the clean install and the not so clean..clean is to solder the wires and then tape them. not clean is to just tape them.....i chose to solder becauseim very skilled at it so then u wrap each wire and then wrap over the harness to about an inch ont the wires.....replaces stock wire cover. but anyways lol back to the real topic which pictures will be posted tmrw (to dark now) tools: flathead screwdriver or dash removal tool phillips drill with unibit console removal: now i had a dash removal tool to use but if this is not an option for you then get the flathead and wrap it in a thin towel (not alot of room where it is t be used) now take the screwdriver and use itto pry off the little change/cell phone pocket in back of the shifter. ..it shud pop right off. now pull up from the hole it has made once removed. now that the main center console hasbee removed lets go for the shifter area. before doing anything take off the shifterknob (kinda gets in the way of the boot.) remove the two phillips screw on the back of this piece of the dash and pull up to release other clips and then backwards to release clips from the end. voila center console removed. now for the ipod: take a rca to 3.5 mm ipod cord and plugit into the inputs ( will show how to hardwire the rcas into the back later i need to learn myself) now run in throught the loop the cigarette lighter makes with its wires. then run underneith the bars around the shifter s it will sit under it. then theres a little opening thats rectangle shaped at the end thats going into the center console feed the cable thru. then take your drill and unibit and drill a hole into the center glovebox (unibit makes for a cleaner looking drill). now feed the wire through there and voila u have your ipod cable in your middle glovebox. now just put everthing back and you are done. upcoming: underglow install and underglow switch install. als for underglow switch there is a perfect spot on the center console that has a little clip cover over it (pic tmrw) edit: switch area moved took an extra switch hole out
yes and the easy way to keep it in place is two pieces of thick double sided tape cus it holds it in but it invisible cus the outside dash cover everything up
awesome...question;do u know if I can get the switches at home depot and they'll fit? a friend of mine did that with his tc and xb and said they worked. wasn't sure if most cars have the same measurements for switches. I just want something plain and stock looking.
I have a question. I took my center off a while ago as well to install some stuff. Now my issue is it comes off way to easy than the first time. Does that happen to you? I also made a switch, but I kept the stock layout.
Pretty good job on the install. Not digging the switch. A nice flush mounted rocker switch would have been much more stylish.
I actually used a flush mounted rock switch for my interior LED. It's mounted in place of the cigarette lighter port. I'll post some pics of it later.
so you ran all your interior neons right to the cig. lighter power? So now that 10a (or W/E it is) stock fuse for your cig lighter is now protecting the cig lighter and all your lights... not a good idea at all. Tapping into stock wires for your neons is a BADDD idea...trust me...we see hundreds of failed installs every month because of this.
it uses the same power as the cigarette lighter puts out its all 12 volt how else do you want it to install i was already told hardwiring it the a fuse is a bad idea which is how everything was first done
Hardwiring to a fuse is never a bad idea  Problem with just tapping into stock wiring is that everything you add to that line has an amp draw..which is why fuses are rated at a certain amp. if its a 10 amp fuse and the total of draw on that line is 15...your gonna pop that fuse. Then most guys just throw in a bigger fuse...but most times stock wiring can't handle that bigger load..and that can lead to something very bad. It may be ok now...but if you add more lights or electronics or plug something into your cigi lighter you will be adding more amp draw...not good. I'm not trying to tell you what to do....just passing on some advise. Working for streetglow I hear horror stories on a daily basis. We had one kid take his stock 10A fuse out and replace it with a 30A and took his cigi plug out and used those wires as his power source for a bunch of leds, neons, strobes. Well... the fuse never popped but the wires melted..which melted the other 50 wires in the same stock wire loom...$3700 to rewire his entire car. The absolute best way to go is just get an add-a-circuit...clean install, you retain the stock fuse and gain a new fuse for the new line.
Oh no they not powered by the cig. lighter power port. I actually just placed the flush mounted rocker switch in it. I was never going to use the cig. lighter power port any ways, so I just used it.
