http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 4731290932 i actually watched the whole 1+ hour video... it's really interesting =)... i'd love to actually learn how to do all that, would be fun ^_^... though it's probably kinda expensive :-\ like $60+ per yard ... that doesn't include all the other stuff u need like resin etc. :-\... wish i had the money just to simply play around w/ the stuff lol
i posted it asap after watching it... i looked it up how to do it after reading KRU's CF door panels... and was kinda interested in it, but like i said, it's fkn expensive
Get KRU's POV on this thing...I'm sure he'll say if its good stuff or not. I'm wondering how to do curves and bends though.
1. the price for cf sheets is expensive and 2. ive seen the amount of work it takes to get it to look right and its a pain in the ass
actually it might not be that far off... lets say for a hood where they charge $600 i think it was... now a 1 yard by 1 yard (looked it up) comes out to about $55... i'm gonna just guess a hood is about... 1.25x1 yards... that would come out to $68... now u need i guess around 3 layers (i really don't know, making this up), thats $204... but u haven't added the cost of the resin, the cost of the mold, cost of labor... and probably one or two things i'm not thinking of... so ya, CF is expensive :-\
cool find. I hope it answers a lot of your guys questions. Select products has a great assortment of videos. He showed a lot of over board tech stuff, which is a must when startn off. As you gain experience you will find ways to keep your costs down.
holy sweetness!!! i think this is the first time i've gotten kru's approval on something!!! AWSOME!!! lol... but ne way, ya i learned a lot on watching this video and really wanna go out there and try some things, only thing stopping me though is money ... maybe i should just play w/ fiberglass, it's a lot cheaper... but, idk wat to make lol
another thing is he showed making c/f parts with backing them in c/f. Well thats fine and all, but a trick is to use fiberglass cloth(10oz.) as the middle pieces. The tinsel strength is about equal. Equal enough for 98% of whats made out there and cheaper.
yup yup! Also for parts you make that will c the sun. U need to use an automotive clear coat that is u.v. stable. This will keep ur c/f parts from turning yellow and clouding. There are clear gel coats that can do this as well. You just gotta know where to use what and when. EXPERIENCE!
any suggestions on where to start? as in like what to make as a first project for practice... and would u suggest another very cheap material that might be similar to CF to work w/ for practicing?
