What are the pros and cons of getting rid of my 99' Galant ES V6 and buying a brand new 08' Lancer.

When I was on Mitsubishicars.com making a fake package, i went with the DE because it was cheaper. What should I get. I'm NOT into performance when I work on a car because it is my daily and I dont have the time/tools/will to up the performance of it. I just want a good reliable car that I can aford/customize the look of.

What is the MPG like? I would be getting an auto. Are there any known problems with the 08' that I would need to worry about even buying it brand new?

Any help and info would be greatly welcomed.

If this was already discussed could you please direct me. The search isnt working, I did try.

Well, I get about 350 miles on a tank and the tank is about 13 gallons. I didn't look that info up, its the amount of gas i put into my car. the 350 is 50% city and 50% highway. I've gotten about 430 miles on 95% highway on a tank.

The buying is going to depend on you really. if you can afford the car payment while going to school then go for it. I have less than a year before I graduate college so I decided to get the 08 Lancer ES (didn't care much for the GTS cuz I'm going to change most of the mods they give you anyway).

you'll need to figure out the numbers on interest rate, your trade in value, and prolly the amount u spend on gas for your V6.

Well what I want to know is what model i should get? I have a really good connection like I said. I know that it depends on my money situtation but I just want to make sure it is a good car and find info on the buy I might make soon.

Thankyou for your input, how do you like your car so far?

Personally i love my car. From what i've read on here, some people don't like the lack in performance in the 08 Lancers. Now the 09 GTS has a 2.4L 168HP engine but of course its gonna cost more and most aftermarket stuff that is out is for the 2.0L. I think the 152HP fed spec is enough to get on the freeway and pass people. I do it just fine.

Another thing is the rear panel rattles when you have a sub in it, but that's easily fixable. The paint on the car really sucks but I think Mitsu has a rep for that. Aside from those things I really can't think of anything else. Nothing major comes to mind.

Oh...when you put window tint on, there have been problems with it scratching the inside over time. I want to say that Mitsu fixed the prob but I'm not 100% on that. it's annoying but not a huge deal for me. may want to double check on that with your friend at Mitsu

Thanks for your replies, i really want the electric blue pearl one, put some blue tint on it that would match or some legal black tint and maybe just a good aftermarket hu and be done. i dont want to mess up this car that much. i want to stay stock besides putting my 18" ADR Flite 5 wheels on it.

I think it looks better with the stock spoiler too. so im going to go with that package

also another thing to like at and take into consideration, you said the it most likely will be a dd. the de does not have the ac included with it only the es and gts. something to think about

AC is not STANDARD EQUIPMENT but you can get it as an option or part of the dealership package

Yes it is. when you talked good about the lancer when that post said i was stupid for wanting it and you posted this site i joined. i dont have a lancer but it was the only name i could think of. i dont even want to customize it either lol

Good to know about the AC. i dont want the lancer to customize it altho its in my name

all i want to do is get a good HU (unless the stock one is good enough) put my rims on it and put some nice black tint on. and ill be done. i want to start with 0 miles and know everything that goes wrong with the car will be my fault which is why i will take care of it like crazy.

i think i read about the winter that the stock tires are bad. but someone else told me their GTS is good. if i go with the ES will i need snow tires?

Dunlops SUCK on the GTS, the Yokohamas are all season on the ES but you decided on better tires for snow.

umm... u never get a car w/ 0 miles :p... i think the absolute lowest u'll ever get is like 10 miles... right? :p

You can find cars with lower then 10 miles. My Galant only had 1.5 miles when I purchased it. It went from the shipyard to the truck and off onto the dealer lot. It still had the plastic on it...

    sorry 10 miles :p

maybe a little more after i test drive.

yea my insurance on the Galant was only $589 half year this past end of march when i paid. thats under my moms insurance having two cars, abs, and good grades. thats not bad for being 17.

im going to check with insurance first tho just to make sure, i mean i can aford it bcuz my G was $710 half year last year and it dropped this year

ur insurance might actually go down... i know a lot of people that went from some 98 and their new lancer was actually cheaper because of all the safety features they have =)

    basically here it is
i messed up with this and im paying for it now
dont get the packages....no navi an no rockford
first of all that rockford shit blows
i just hooked all my rockford speakers up to a eclipse 175x4 amp
    and they sound decent
    but not worth 1000
im putting 800 dollar polks speakers up front which i get for 300 after discount and then 500 dollar coaxials in the back that i get at 150
then i9 have an infiniti sub in the trunk hooked up to 2 of those 4 channels bridged and the other two go to the doors.

but in about 2 weeks im getting 2 kicker 12 inch L7's and a kicker zx 1000.1 mono amp
then the navi will be switched for
either a pioneer z2 depending on if i get a discount on that(gotta call pioneer tmrw they are closed)
    or the eclipse 5495
    both have a hard drive
