I just really bought a brand spanking new 2010 Lancer GTS and it has the standard 170hp with the CVT transmission. I wanted to know if it is possible to do work to it and also can you race with it while putting it into the CVT mode? I really would like some help with this. I am only 20.

Also what would you recommend me start with in terms of Aftermarket Performance Parts, I don't want to do anything Cosmetic.

The last question I have is, while I am in CVT or "Manual" Mode when is it appropriate to shift? I mean when I am in 1st I rev to 3,000rpm then kick it to 2nd then 3,000rpm then 3rd, and etc. etc.

I would do intake first, makes the most sense, and easy to do. And, of course, I'm sure by "race with it" you mean on a closed course or drag strip. I would shift as far as the rpm gauge goes up to on the new Lancers. Well, not all the way up to 8 grand or whatever it is, but definitely not 3k. You're not really getting much of your gear in shifting at 3k. I'd shift around 5 or 6 grand.

I would agree, intake in the easy, quick nice mod to start with. When i'm in 'manual mode' I usually shift around 4.5 - 6k depending on the situation.

    Ok lets break this down.

First off since you are dealing with the 2.4L 4B12 engine when you look for parts look for the ones that are meant for the 2.4 There are some parts that may be tuned to be used for the 2.0 4B11 engine and not so much yours. Some basic mods you can start with for the CVT would be an intake such as this one http://autocityimports.com/2009-mit...take-classretailretail-s45500sdiv-p-8333.html and a lightweight pulley such as this http://www.roadracemotorsports.com/...age=product_info&cPath=1_6_10&products_id=337. Headers and exhausts can also be done as well if youd like. If you want to go straight into the big stuff, look at getting this: http://www.roadracemotorsports.com/...age=product_info&cPath=1_6_10&products_id=608. I will say this much and others will probably agree with me when i say modding your car will not be cheap so keep that in mind if you are on a budget.

On to the second part. Although the manual will tell you to shift at every 3k, it is actually quite slow and somewhat inefficient. The true power for out cars is right around 3500 so depending on your driving style and purpose (getting onto the highway, driving around town, racing, etc) you may find different places to shift.

Hope all that helped. If you have any more questions feel free to ask any of us.

If I'm in manual mode I usually shift sometime after 3500 rpms. I think MIVEC kicks in at 3500 or maybe 3000...I can't remember. But I can feel it when it does kick in. Coming from american muscle over to import I've realized that imports get their acceleration in the higher rpms.

Thanks a lot guys. That was some really useful information. I was actually looking into doing something with the intake first and then exhaust.

i think that it works on compression, like how hard your on the gas and how high your rpms are.

when it comes to after market parts try to becarefull what u put on it, u gotta remember putting after market parts in ur vehicle can void ur warranty. as far as getting performance parts. www.roadracemotorsports.com is a great place to start. i agree with everyone else intake should come first but do ur research on what type of intake you want for ur car (hit me up for suggestions) second should b exhaust. custom exhaust is the cheapest route!
