drl switch? maybe??

i just thought of something. the DRL's come on when the e-brake is fully depressed . so opening my console area i find a switch. i noticed it before when installing my shifter but didnt think much of it.



so by removing the switch and setting it aside the drl problem is solved but in turn the brake light is always on. so we have another way to remedy the problem.

 

Can somebody confirm if this works? If not than I will go an try it myself. Also, couldnt this be a great bypass for people to watch movies while driving?

 

to confirm my eariler post, i just drove down the road about a mile and came back and the results arn in. no drl, no flicker, normal use of switch, added bonus no e-brake light!

 

......i think you will eventually get a message on your dash telling you to release your parking brake.....

 

So do you just completely unplug the switch?

 

ok the first time i turned it on with the switch removed, no flicker. now up or down they flicker. so this way sucks. i still think theres something to this switch, i'm going to keep messin with it and see if i find something.

 

ok i tinkered with it and found out that the switch with e-brake up compleats a circut (sp). so by taking the switch off i severed it telling ecu w/e the e-brake was down so go ahead and turn on the drl's. now what i did was rotate the switch upsidedown. therefore brake light on no drl. now if some one else had a lil more nohow a switch could be found from this.

 

hrmm. take a switch connect this thing to the on of the switch and a ground on the off side of the switch

 

the switch is screwed into the e-brake base grounding it. thats how i found out about rotating it. but i'm shure if the blue wire is followed to wherever it goes, we might be able to find a way to fix the drl problem without keeping th ebrake light on. as for now, another quick fix.

 

nevermind e-brake has a dinger like the seatbelt.

 

well, that sux...cause i no that would annoy the hell out of me. Can anyone get there hands on a wire map?? if not then anyother possible work around would be to simply follow the wires up to the front of each head light and splice 2 wires in there. Those 2 wires would then lead back to a switch in the dash of the car. Sure this would require more wire to be ran, but this should solve the problem. The only think that I can think would go wrong is if there is a alert that would display on the dash saying that the lights are out, or if you cut/splice the wrong wires..lol

 

umm. for those that want to just disable the DRL's... cant you just pull the fuse? in the owner's manual diagram there is a seperate fuse for the DRL's from the regular low beams.

 

Not to sure...but if so will it work for HID's.

 

OK! so i went outside today and tried just pulling the DRL fuse. Nothing happens. -_-;

It was daytime, so i couldn't tell if there was any change in the brightness between having the fuse in or not. so i just reinstalled it and went on my way.

I guess of course, they can't make something that simple...

Edit (9/2/08) - Tried again in a dark parking garage. Still didn't notice any difference in the brightness.. wtf is the purpose of having a fuse that doesn't do anything... I need to break my meters out, i guess.

I have a 09 GTS with HID's and yes I just pulled the fuse. Look closely at the fuse layout under the top of the engine fuse box cover. There are actually 2 DRL fuses. You want #13 (10amp). Located in the extreme driver, front corner.
