First off, stop over reacting. Second its designed to primarily attack non-updated Microsoft based systems. And weather or not you comp was on on the 1st doesn't mean crap. I know I don't know much having only worked with comps for 10+ years but its not that bad. Check to see if you can load into safe mode, if yes then most likely you don't have it, is your firewall/anti virus setting still on the same settings? if so, most likely you don't have it. Have you run the free scans? Both the DHOS and Microsoft, and most anti-virus companies offer a free scan. Update your MS security, and anti-virus updates, scan ur system, and stop freaking out. Lastly NO ONE knows what is gonna do or what its for, and April 1st was only a PROJECTED DATE !!!!!!! Again stop freaking out. My god, you guys live on your comps but don't research stuff. This worm can release at ANY time! Calm down and do the basic maintenance on ur comps, and you should be fine. Well you guys who are heavy into myspace should probably be nervous.

^^ TRUE. There is no reason to worry, to a point. These types of attacks mainly target small businesses or machines on a larger scale network that are not fully updated. Reason being is that when one computer is infected on a network like this, all are. This is an easy way for a worm to spread quickly.

If you can update windows and your anti-virus software, you are good. If you are on a home network with a router, you are most likely good. The April 1st date is a specific timestamp in the code that point to a communication model that interacts with a list of like ~50,000 different servers. All this really can do is either use your pc as a SPAM host, which if this is the case it is very easy to notice, or will watch your keystrokes and try to steal personal information, banks passwords/account numbers/etc.

If you are unsure, close all programs and open the task manager. If there is a large amount of CPU usage when no programs are running, you can settle down.

Be safe, use a router (buffer b/w PC and internet) or shut off your PC when it is not in use!
