What are they supposed to do at the 30000 mile maintenance visit anyway?

i did mine last year...at work, my next door neighbors are all auto service & repair shop so i watch what they do to my car...

    synthetic oil change
    synthetic transmission oil change
all fluids flush out and refill
    all filter change
    brake check and adjustment
    tire rotation balancing aligment
150pt courtesy check...(dont know what that was for)
    and a free car wash...

and for the safety of your car...KEEP THE RECIEPT...if anything break in any part that they touch you can show the receipt...

They are a waste of money. My buddy is a journeyman mechanic at a honda dealer. He said only get the oil changes and trans oil changes when u are supposed to. He said that they check all the stuff the say they will very quickly but will only do something to fix a problem they may find if it is something major otherwise they pretend they saw nothing wrong.

changing tranny oil at 30k is extremly stupid and wrong, transmission oil shouldn't need a change till almost 100k miles so you waste your money if you getting tranny oil change before then.

Journeyman is a "rank" for a skilled trade. Like when you're an apprentice, you're the newbie that's learning the ropes. The journeyman is the experienced guy that knows a lot and has done it for many years. i.e. the guy who trains the apprentice

true...its a waste of money if you dont know what your doing + if you dont watch the technicians on what they are doin...I have known this fact for a long time now even before i started driving...

in my case, I only go to service shops if i cant do the maintainance myself and i watch them carefully on what they do to my car every step of the way and every single procedure that is said in the book and i make sure they do it right, for the record, i dont leave my car unattended at any service shop even if it was at the dealer...

I love my car, i want it well maintained and cared for, its my daily driving car, and i dont want it to breakdown on in the middle of the road because i did not do the maintenance right...

yea i would like to watch to see what they do to my car too but the 30k service is around 5 hrs(that's that they said) but thanks for the info! appreciated!

and now i have trouble choosing which shop to go to, i live in norCal and i've checked 4 dealers and they all have different pricing:
the Serramonte one charges $988 (that is insane), and the San Mateo one=$488, Concord=$570, San Rafael=$701,
and the last time i checked i thought it was around $300 to do it in the dealer
so i asked the guy in San Mateo why other places charge so much and he said maybe it's just the different methods they use

so do u guys know which shop in the norCal is cheaper and better? and what is neccessary for the 30k service and what's not?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!!
