OK.. so I have a 2008 WW Lancer GTS with all the bells and whistles. I pick it up last year used with 25k miles on it. This is a daily driver car for me, and I love every bit of it. It's a fun car to drive, and for the price I paid for it I can't complain. I have already put 40k miles on my car total. My question is, is it worth me putting any money into this car? I mean, I plan to keep it until it dies, and as of right now I have put on the RRM V2 intake, RRM axle back, TWM short throw (which so far has been my best mod, it gives a totally different feel to it), 20% tint all around, and blacked out the middle of the bumper. I will start off by saying this, and try to imagine this as you read. You have those days were you get so excited to get mods for your car, then you remind yourself that it's a daily driver, and you don't think it's wise to put the money into it. Now on one hand that might be true, but on the other you sort of get this itch... an itch you can't seem to scratch. That itch is called the enthusiast phenomena that leads us to mod our cars and enjoy the ride. From my standpoint I just can't decide what else I want to do.. Leave as is, or go for more. I'm a big suspension guy so if I were to do anything more I would like to do suspension work and brakes all around. don't car for much engine work, maybe a header but that's about all. I need to make this car last. What do you guys think.. Should I just say screw it and mod the hell out of it, or leave as is, knowing that its a daily driver car.
Well some dont care to mod cars, they think there car is good from factory. To me, I love mod'ing my car. It's like a since of pride saying thats MY car and no one helped me do that, no one bought me that, its ALL ME. Really unless you go drastic with it, none of your mods should hurt the life of the car. I say mod on =]
Haha Im a big suspension guy myself. Sometimes I wonder why I spent money I on my car, but in the end I always feel like I enjoy it more than how it was so I dont complain. To me my best mod so far is the RRM pully, but I do plan on getting a short shifter sometime soon.
Hey think of it as this. If your car makes you happy and you like to mod it then mod it! If your car doesnt then dont. Simple as that. I love my car and i plan to keep it till it dies as well (hopefully not any time soon *Knock on wood*) i will continue to mod my car and to make it a one of a kind machine. I want to remember my car and i want ppl to remember it to!
i say mod it. i mean maybe get some headers.. but i say def get some suspension parts make the car more fun to drive make it so u can really take those turns and not worry
ok so people ask me why i spent 22K on my lancer and then more $$$ on mods. well its for that reason. i dont care that it doesnt make over 200 whp but i do care that it's my first car and hope to keep it for as long as possible. when things start breaking down i'll replace them with OEM or better.
^+5...i have to agree with lancerES09...i also love my car and like some of us its my first car, and have mod it, and will mod it some more...i love working on it and being able to say "hey, this is my car" has a big sense of pride that only the true enthusiast feels as we show off our rides...I SAY MOD IT!! MOD IT TO YOUR FULLEST ABILITY!! why, you ask?? you said the best mod youve done so far is the short shifter...i also have it and it is indeed one of the best mods there is...it changes the entire feeling of how you drive...well when you look at other mods like suspension, you can take corners at higher speeds that you would on stock suspension...and that also feels great...not to mention the look it gives your ride all nice and low!!so with every mod is a different story, and i guess you can see where im going...hope you make the decision that better suits you, and have fun modding your car some more!!
mine is also a daily driver and i understand what you feel, i decided to mod it, but in moderation, nothing to extreme if it wasnt a daily driver than sure why not, but you can never go wrong with working on the supension and brakes. that shouldnt affect the life of your vehicle if thats what you are worried about.
dont spend a time on it ( little advice after beeing totally disappointed with mine) the car has been an ever going problem (small things) but lately, at 20 000 kms less than 2 years of owning it, i am just fed up, went throug all suspension parts you can think about under garantee. last week I had the front subframe replaced and the rear suspension arms/shocks (shocks were blown). transmission went dead, cat converter quitted on me,mirror fell off inside, the big dash panel cracked in half last month ,in the same week back glass shatered while the car was parked in the garage (makes a loud boom sound) and as of this morning, dead radio (bluetooth works :? )and left rear window is dead (all fuses are good dealer found nothing while scanning the car). Oh and i forgot paint is peeling but mitsubishi wont cover it unless rust is forming so i am rocking primer blotches. these cars are hell (well mine is) just hope you dont have any of these troubles with the car if you spend any money on it because you will doublely hate the car. ps: im not hard at all on the car it's just falling appart, matter of fact, my old cars had respectively 230 and 420 thousand kms on them with no major problems, the 420 000 kms sidekick still had original clutch (started to slip) and no rust at all, got totalled by an epileptic lady) 230 000 kms euro mercedes was a 1989 and pristine (had original subframe pucks on it, the normally crack if car is driven sportively) best luck to you man
^^ honey we call that a LEMON...bad luck you got a car that came a total F***UP from the manufacturer...but for most of us, car enthusiast, that like working on my personal car the suspension problem you had would simply be fixed with lowering springs or coilovers...shattered rear window i blame that on cold (since we dont have any in PR)...radio is another quick fix with an AM sound system...what i do have to agree with you is on Mitsu's shitty ass paint jobs...it sucks ass...but other than that, i say your car was a LEMON...and i dont know about canada warranties but in the states (including PR) there is a law for lemon cars which the dealer has to change your car if the same problem persists for 3 or more times, no questions asked...good luck with your ride... i LOVE my car, and that said....MODS FTW!!!
I agree that your car is a lemon. I have not heard of anyone else having half of those problems. Sorry for the bad luck.
that just sucks, i mean our cars have problems but that many....yeah somethings wrong with that picture, and i thought my car was the only one with the paint issue.
nope....its a fact that mitsu paint has always sucked big time...ive seen many mitsus here an there that lack a good paint job...
So far my bad luck has resulted in getting new bumpers, maybe if this bad luck continues and moves to other parts of the car, I'll end up getting a whole new paintjob lol... Now if only the body shop could match the paint properly :\
I say press and mod away! Long as you dont boost it, reliability should be of no concern to you. That is the only thing you could do to really jeopardize the longevity of the car. Push it up and personalize that thing! Im not into performance that much either as for the HP number is concerned. Im kinda an in and out fan, suspension, brakes, wheels and tires, interior, and some cosmetics! Im also a huge modified OEM person. Want to to look at my car and go, thats a GTS, but there is something different, and play a little game of wheres waldo to figure it out! So get to it! Scott
i have out close to 8k in mine and i love it, its my own feels great to see how far that the car has come when you just sit back and look at it. its so worth it
