i painted my grill black and this keeps happening. iv primed it put 3 coats paint and 2 coats clear and this happend, then i sanded it and used krylon paint for plastic then i clear coated it and it happend again. what am i doing wrong or is this happening to others.
Mine chipped a little but nothing like that. And I didn't even prime mine at all. All I did was put 3 coats of paint on it. I'm not sure what you're doing wrong but maybe you should just buy the DE Grill.
Did you paint it in a warm environment if it was cold that may be your problem. I see this as an excuse to get the carbon fiber one. Then you have to get the carbon fiber hood to match, and then the trunk.... the list goes on lol.
YES I SANDED IT REALLY GOOD WHEN I PAINTED IT. IT WAS ABOUT 70 OUT WHEN I DID IT THE FIRST TIME AND THE SECOND TIME ABOUT 40 IN MY GARAGE. YEAH I GUESS IM EITHER GOING TO HAVE TO GET THE DE GRILL OR THE RRM CARBON FIBER ONE BUT THE PRICE IS WHAT I DONT LIKE (8O YOW) OR I WOULD OF HAD ONE BY NOW! THANKS EVERYONE. SORRY ABOUT THE ALL CAPS
Who makes vinyl for the chrome grill???? I never heard of anyone putting vinyl on this piece. I personally had the same problem with the paint chipping..but not as bad as yours..I brought it to mitsubishi and they color matched it to me car for free...looks slick
mine chipps mostly when its raining hard and im driving so yea. and the vinal is the ralli art look you can buy on ebay, i think
ok sooo...wat does the ralliart trim have to do with paint chipping off the chrome piece lol ...I'm confused about this so called vinyl for this piece..cause i'm never heard or seen this
See the black part of my bumper.... that's vinyl. What they're saying is, instead of painting the chrome on the grill like pictured above. Vinyl it instead.
you can use the black wheel paint from dupli-color. I used theyre gunmetal wheel paint on the grille on my Galant a few years back and it never chipped. evarrrr.
You and me have the same problem - I also have a rally red -- i've already repainted mine 2x - and it was during summer to. I even finished the whole can of paint. 1) sanded it till it got rough 2) Put primer so the paint would stick 3)then paint it black 4)then even put clear paint on top of it - as protection 5)I even used a heater to bake it ********IT STILL CHIPPED!!!!!!!!!!!******** *i think its the salt/snow/temperature and all.
