As of today am new to these forums, been looking for a good lancer forum for a while now! so i thought i would start it off with a nice noobish type question. :D

I have a white 1995 Fifth Gen lancer sedan (Same shape as evo 1-3, Chassis code 'CC' in australia, im in New Zealand! :D ) that came new zealand standard (called the GLS or GLXi) with a SOHC 4G15 (carbureted peice of poooo) and im wanting to slap a 4G92 of a simiar year in it but keep it carbureted? All the 4G92's i have seen are all fuel injected, and seen alot of people do a 4G92 swap but they change from carby to EFI and im thinking about keeping it carbed.

Just any advice or tips on if i should go through with it or not??

The overall question is.. I wana go faster with my crap engine, HOW! haha
all the 'bolt on bits' that i have found are all mods for an EFI engine. But i want carbed!!

p.s this is a low budget build

Im sure millions of people ask this question so im sorry in advance for your fustration! :(

    Chur.

well, the GLi had the 4G15 (1.5L) and the GLXi came with either the 4G92 (1.6L, carb) or the 4G93 (1.8L, FI)..if you wanted to swap to the 4G92, you would get more power...90HP to about 115HP. but with any carb engine, the basics are about the same...a simple cai setup would work, try to service your carb, or find new performance carb ( i think Weber makes one for that motor). port and polish the head would help out a little, then a better flowing exhaust. that should get you a few extra ponies out of any carb engine.

I think thats enough for street performance unless your engines needs major reapir due to worn out piston rings, leaking gaskets, loose bearings etc. just start out with a full tune up, then go from there

    oh cheers mate thanks alot,
my model is actualy the GLS, thats the one that came in New Zealand with the sohc 1.5 carb, so i supose its the same as a GLi?
Could i just get a 4g92 (Say out of a 1992-1995 lancer that was injected) and keep my carby setup for it? Mabey get a DOHC from a 1995-1998 6Gen MX but still keep my carbs?

yeah polish and porting were possibilites, next week im going after some higher quality spark plugs and leads, see if that makes a difference!

Thanks for your advice man, it really helps! ill try get some pics of the engine up so you can see for sure.

    Cheers guys

ha...a little trick about spark plugs...make a mark on the top of the plug to let you know where the open side of the spark gap is. when installing, line up that mark with the intake port in the cylinder...guaranteed 1-2 free horsepower...no matter what engine you have.

nice looking lancer...but you're right, that monster of a motor needs a little help. keep us updated, and don't hesitate to ask any of us for advice.

judging from that picture, care to venture a list about what you would do? Dont really know where to start :?
other than a tune! and a clean lol

well, there are a number of things you could do that are not that expensive. doing a basic tune-up is going to be the number one thing to do. start off with changing the oil and filter, drop in a high flow air filter, better plugs, plug wires, distributor, and rotor button. as for performance, you could throw on an intake(you may have to make one yourself..i can't think of anyone that makes one for your motor), put on a high performance ignition and coil, open up the exhaust a bit by putting on some type of aftermarket system. if you do all the work yourself, you would spend probably around 500-600 bucks.

Perfect man thanks a lot. Really aprreciated.

Hey i was just looking at an Evo 1 exhaust from the Cat back thats for sale, and then comparing it to my one, and my exhaust goes straight down the middle of the car then takes a right and around my petrol tank/wheel well, and then over the arm to the muffler. Where as the Evo 1 exhaust looks like it just goes striaght underneath the tank/well. Would this fit on my car or would it need modification? Would the evo exhaust be different like this because of its 4wd nature and need to go around the diff?

also looking at some evo 3 sway bars, cause my car rolls like crazy in the corners!

i have no idea about that, but i'll see what i can find out. if it is different, i would think that it is because of the rear diff. i know that exhaust for the evo 7, 8, and 9 will fit my gen lancer, so i'm thinking that it would work...we just have to be sure first. if nothing else, find a shop with a mandrel bender to make you a full exhaust like me. i went to a welding supply store and bought 2.5inch tubing, took it to a shop, made the same bends as my factory exhaust, then welded on the hangers and muffler. if i remember right, it only cost me around 300 bucks (i bought a magnaflow cat and an alphawerks muffler and put them on at the same time) with yours, i don't know what shape your current exhaust is in...so it may be a good investment.

would 2.5 be to big? for my tiny N/A 1.5? i was thinking 2.25 would be better but hey
And yeah my exhaust may not be in that great shape. My car has done 220,000Ks, but thats all open road and freeway driving, my car is imaculate, been very amazingly maintained its whole life, not a scratch on her, its just the running gear thats done alot of work, thats why i was origianlly wanting to know what engine transplant i could do to get the best result without too much work. (i dont really want to do a EFI conversion as i am still a student and dont have that much money/time/space/knowledge. :? im hard to work with i know, but i love my lancer and just wana get the best of her!

i have th 2.5 inch because i had my R/A turboed for a while. you could probably get away with 2 inch..and that may be a little big for a 1.5, but yours is carb., so i don't think you would have any problems. FI cars need a good bit of backpressure to run "correctly"...that's why mine gets crappy mileage now. ha As long as the motor was properly taken care of, it should last as long as you want it to.

sweet...you need to start a progress report here on the forum. http://lancertuners.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=93

just post pics pf any updates or new mods you do. take a look at some of them and you will get the general idea of how to do it. i think its cool that you put in a set of factory evo seats, instead of aftermarket racing buckets like most people these days. i've wanted to put a set of evo 8 or 9 seats in mine, but i haven't found any with in my budget. well, good luck, and keep us updated!

yeah i hate aftermarket bucket seats, they ruin the whole interior, looks tacky. i recon its way better having something mitsubishi OEM, but you have to make sure you get the whole interior, so it looks like it was ment to be there. Looks so much nicer. Yeah i was going to get a Evo9 rear seat for mine, i love it how its just straight black. Sooo sexy

But ok back to another question. Looking at getting an engine to put in my garage and do slow amounts of work on. I figured that my engine at the moment is not worth doing what i want done to it, so going to get something else.

Should i get another 4g15? They seem to be quite rare in the carb model as most of them switched to EFI.
Or is there something else i could get that would produce good results while being carbed?

no one on this site seems to have a 5th gen lancer :( i feel so alone...
    ..and poor lol
