This is a call to all the other snowbound lancerheads out there. I'm pretty sure this is normal and was mitsubishi's way of keeping people like me from killing their cars in the snow, but if my wheels start to spin I experience a severe drop in power. I can't even hear my intake sucking air when it happens. As I said I'm probably being paranoid but has anyone else experienced this. Its quite annoying.

There's no drop in power on my car when the wheels spin. I ease off the gas myself to regain traction. The only reason that would happen was if you had traction control and as far as I know we don't have it. Or do the 09 lancers have it? Which year do you have?

there you have it...09 gts (surely its not the es sport)...are equipped with traction control unlike the 08...i assumed theres a bit of a difference in your car... tcs slows down the spin of the wheels to gain traction...

    correction is welcome...

you can always just shut off the traction control, it should be on the 3 button on the left of the steering wheel .

Ah! ajusteen, ours don't have said button but it's located where those three nubs are next to the steering wheel. I have learned, also, that traction control can also be achieved through the ebrake (thank you aujusteen).

I don't have an actual button. There are 3 blanks to the left of the wheel but no actual button. I'm starting to think its built into the ECU to protect the car from people like me. I may have to resort to asking the dealership.

does any of you know if the tcs can be installed on a non tcs equipped car ?
the lancer is pretty horible in the snow compared to the current cars in my family and my previous cars

if you can't shut off the tcs that would suck 100%! cause they you can not launch your car if you were to drag race. if you don't have the button im almost sure you must not have tcs

If there is no tcs on my car should I be worried about it losing power?now I'm kinda nervous. Any advice from another 09 gts owner?

I was under the impression that 08's did not have the TC or SC options. My 3 buttons are dummy's as well.

I struggled in the snow (I live in MN). I had the exact same issue you are describing. I threw on some WinterForce tires and 17" rims and now I can plow through the deepest snow like nothing. The factory tires on the GTS are rated 0/5 for light snow, and 0/5 for deep snow......time for a new set :)

On the 09 traction control is an option. When i bought my 09 the option wasn't avaliable which stunk. My tires just spin when it is snowy out.
